Apple has this version (I assume it was the previous gen) for sale for $1799:



MacBook Pro 15-inch 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (previous generation)



15.4-inch widescreen display

2GB memory

250GB hard drive

8x SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)

NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT with 512MB of GDDR3 memory

Built-in iSight Camera



Is there a good reason to spend $200 more to get the current version, who's specs sound pretty similar to someone that doesn't know the diff between the respective Invidia graphics processors:



2.4GHz Macbook Pro



* Intel Core 2 Duo

* 15-inch widescreen

* 2GB Memory

* 250GB hard drive1

* NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT with 256MB



PS I might be doing some basic video editing (mostly documentary type shit)

    Faster, stronger, better graphics, more durable (not made out of plastic)



    its your desicion if you can get the new version, it would be better for video editing, and general use.

    Re-sale value of the newer Alu model is gonna be better.

    If that doesn't bother you and you're not a 'must have the very latest' kinda person then take the cheaper deal and chuck 4GHz of non-Apple RAM into it



    It's still a killer machine

    I have exactly the same dilemma. Here in the UK you can get a brand new (older version) MacBook Pro with exactly the same spec for £500 cheaper!



    So I went to the store to try them both out. The problem is the trackpad - if you thought old Apple trackpads were good, then wait until you try the new ones. I think they are a game changer - so smooth and accurate - incredible. It has totally torn me, because it is such a key component. They are so much better - but £500 - damn - that is so much cash.
