If i were to buy a home theater in a box that says it handles a 1080p signal ( made by Yamaha YHT-180) will hooking my blu ray player via hdmi into the reciever then into the tv reduce my image quality at all?

There should be no downgrade in quality, but you should check that it is really 1080p through the whole chain (not just "1080p compatible" or something like that) and supports HDCP etc.

Does your TV display higher than 1080p?
Or perhaps you are more concerned about the hypothetical signal that you wouldn't see anyway... Yeah, that signal gets lost, all of it. Tragic.
