iPhone WiFi hunting made a bit easier

It's a hard-knock life if you're desperately in need of a wireless connection, prowling the streets at night, looking for some sap who hasn't protected their network yet. By the 23rd street, you'll probably start thinking: there's got to be an easier way.

Wi-Fi Finder (Free, App Store) sets out to do exactly this, by serving you a directory of 200,000 locations where you can get your wireless on.

This particular Wi-Fi finding solution uses the "world's largest verified registry of hotspot locations", allowing you to find a place to quickly send that last desperate Tweet for help in over 135 countries. The app also has a handy feature that allows you to find the nearest hotspot to your current location, meaning those days of comparing co-ordinates are long gone.

With GPS, a huge database, and the ability to show you addresses, fees and phone numbers, this app may be the right thing for the globetrotter in you.

Which registry is this? Does it include Japan?

Disclaimer: I've never really done that. Have you been burned by Wifi Prowlers?

Remember: You'd protect your children. So protect your WiFi. 'Til next time, gang!
