Will an older program that requires a OS X 10.2.8 operating system run on my macbook which has OS X 10.5.6? I am new to macs and know more about xp and win 98, etc... the mac os compatibility is a mystery to me. also, when i download a program like a game demo and open it, it will often open as a text document instead of running as a program, why is this?

Unless you give some actual information about your older program, there is no way to tell if it will run on your MacBook or not.

It is a game called Mototrax and these are the system requirement listed.

    System Requirements

Mac OS X 10.2.8 or later

1GHz PowerPC G4 processor or higher

    256MB of RAM (512MB recommended)

32MB ATI Radeon 7500/Nvidia GeForce 2 or better graphics card

    1.4GB of hard drive space

    8x CD-ROM

The xp version runs on the macbook when I boot it up with xp

As the game calls for a G4 and the MacBook has an Intel C2D you won't be able to run it. Unless you have an iBook instead of the MB than you are out of luck.

    Note the "or later".

Since the application is a PowerPC application, it should run under Leopard fine using Rosetta unless the application requests direct hardware access or something else that is weird.

    Give it a try.
