Cool screen cappy feature in Jaguar:

Immediately hit the spacebar after typing Command-Shift-4. Go on, do it! :0)

Instead of crosshairs, you?ll see a little camera. Move the camera around to highlight the Dock, the menu bar, the desktop, or any open window. Then just click the mouse button to 'snap' a screen shot.

With this option, you can entirely eliminate the desktop when you capture a screen shot of an individual window!

Now go take on the day!

In OS 9 this feature was around too but instead of hitting space you would turn your caps on.

Building on Belle's post about the command-line screencapture utility.

You can nab a screenshot while a DVD is playing with it, while the key-combination is disabled. You can also nab screenshots of the login window and such...

    screencapture <filename>

For the login window, you have to do it remotely of course...and use a privileged user:

    sudo screencapture <filename>
