Looking for advice in initial iPhoto setup

For years, I've kept my iPhoto library on an external USB drive for the sole purpose of having multiple users being able to edit the photos/library. I have a new Mac on the way so this is my time to rethink whether it's still the correct way to handle this.

Three options (that I know of):

1) Continue to use an external drive

2) Create a separate partition on the boot hard drive where all users have read/write access

3) Create a disk image to hold the library such as Apple outlines here:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1198

Actually, a 4th option exists, too... force each user to have their own library.

I've never tried option 3 and would like to gather the opinions of someone who may have done this. Anyone gone this route?

I believe the biggest pitfall for option 2 is that I'm pretty much stuck with a maximum library size from declaring a partition size. I suppose I can do a dynamic re-size if it ever became necessary but that sounds like something most want to avoid.

Any thoughts or recommendations (including another option I don't know about)?

If I were in your shoes, I'd stick with #1. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" Seems like the best/easiest way to do what you want.
