"Make dysentery fun again!" is likely the motto that will define Gameloft's newest submission to the App Store, a visually and functionally updated version of the popular Oregon Trail ($5.99, App Store) for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

The original Oregon Trail was of course inspired by the realities of migrating American pioneers trying to get to Oregon to found new businesses, farms and lives. The original game featured food management, hunting and coping with illnesses; fortunately, all of these features have carried on with the App Store version of the game.

While a complete and very polished graphical overhaul of the game, the iPhone and iPod touch version also sports a variety of additions to the game itself, with eight "skill-based" minigames which will have the player

"hunting, fishing, river crossing, rafting, wagon repairing, telegraph, berry picking, and gold panning;" two of the minigames make specific use of the accelerometer in both the iPhone and iPod touch.

In the main game, it also brings random events (such as hitchhikers, bandits, or disease) as well as side missions to liven the journey.
