I was thinking about it a few days ago, searched on <a href="http://www.macosxhints.com" target="_blank">Mac OS X Hints</a>, found nothing. And gave up.
Or start hacking/rewriting the frameworks in Mac OS X or write some kind of hack that interrupts the menu calls (you *might* can do this with APE, but that's just a guess).
The way I see it, this is one of the big things that makes faster Macs still feel slow. In OS 9, with the blinking on, my iMac 233MHz feels sluggish. With them off it feels very snappy.
I really wish you could disable this in OS X.
In fact I am going to go suggest it to the people who work at Unsanity right now...
