Purchasing Used?

My brother is in the market for a computer, and as it happens a friend of his has a mid-2007 iMac with the basic specifications for that model:2.0Chz chip, 1.0GB RAM, 250GB HD, see also http://support.apple.com/kb/SP16.

The seller wants $8**, which I feel is much too high for almost a full two years old (original retail $1,195). I think it needs to be closer to $650 or $700 on the generous end, can anyone provide me some insight?

I think it depends on your local market. Here in the Bay Area a quick check on Craigs List suggests that while that might be a little high, it's not out of the ballpark.

Elsewhere, though, the resale market might be different.

I just sold a 20" G5 iMac for $550 even. It was maxxed out (2GB, 400GB). For an intel iMac of the same type, 20" screen, I could have sold it with a $200 premium at most ($750). I think $700 would be a good price and spend $50 getting that system to 2GB RAM or more.

    That price is high.

An Apple refurb from the last generation iMac is $849. That's a 2.4 ghz machine with a one year warranty.
