Vuescan for Printers

My adventure with Jaguar continues...

Actually, it's going quite well. I've got my HP Laserjet in Print Center, and my Zip and Scanner connected by SCSI card are all alive and well.

The only missing piece now is my colour inkjet, a Canon BJC-4550, connected via a Keyspan Twin Serial to USB adapter. I know the adapter is supported, but I've come up empty on a driver solution. Canon's site doesn't list the BJC-4550 as supported.

Does anyone know of a driver solution for older inkjets, in the same way Vuescan supports a variety of older scanners?

I have your solution! Try this link:

I can't rightly explain the technical hooba-joob behind it, but the software installs a crop of its own drivers, amongst which is one for your Canon. The directions to install this are pretty easy to follow, though very necessary because of some silly key command at one point. It uses GhostScript, which I gather is the open-source version of Adobe's PostScript (and is a lot cheaper for printers). I haven't used it extensively so I can't vouch for its quality, but it does have plenty of print options to work with.

Also, for sake of completeness for all who see this thread, it's worth looking at...

They make RIPs and proofing software for a bunch of different printers, though PowerRIP (PostScript, $360) and iProof (non-PostScript, $50) for OS X is Epson only, so far.

    Hope that helps!
