Apple Store vs VARs

I'm wondering which way is best:

i have a nice Apple store here in Baltimore with all the smartass little apple clones running around "helping" customers...looks overstaffed to me...Problem is when your hardware goes bad and you have to get in the que...I just waited 11 full days to fix an iMac bad HD cable (with PROCARE!!) when i go to get the machine i have to run the gauntlet of 5 helpers all of whom pass you off to the next guy...Painful wading through the PC iPhone users

I also have a nice VAR here too...professional shop with a authourized mac fix it guy who knows his stuff but appears to have one hand tied behind his back when fixing my machine...He doesnt seem to have full APPLE discretionary powers when it comes to final fixes...seems he needs to be authorized to do more than one trick.

They both serve the purpose but i seem to hate them both equally...

I like going to the store for the direct pipeline but also like the VARS ability to editorialize on 3rd party solutions

Any thoughts?
