New MacBook Air redesign at the end of the year?

This is how I think that the next MacBook Air should look like:

http://macbookair.rumody.com/

Essentially:
  • Thinner than the actual Air

  • Expandable memory

  • Sharing parts with the rest of 'the family'; that means cheaper to produce!

  • 2 USB ports instead of one and a SD card (in case they ship Snow Leopard in a SD card)

  • Buttonless trackpad

I wonder about the Air... I'm sure SJ loves this product for it's thinness but the features you suggest basically take it to just a few steps from the 13" MBP. When that happens the price premium becomes too apparent. Personnally I struggle to see who could justify an Air at the moment when the bottom end MBP is such good value.

    Agreed.

So what (else) will Apple do to differentiate in the future?

    OLED?

    11" Screen?

    Carbon Fibre material?

Wouldn't that be the new MacBook Pro, and not the new Air? You think the thinness is not important, but you probably don't own one. I own an Air, and despite what you think it's thinness and lightness define this product, and make it easy to carry and use. I never liked the door port thing myself, but I'll suffer that, the thinness of this product makes it great.

This mocked Air is thinner than the actual Air (in the thickest part).

It will be probably a little bit heavier, but not to much.

I don't think the new MacBook Pro will be like this one, as it has no CD, and I don't think they will get rid of the optical drive in the next years in the Pro and Consumer lines.

What you've got here is not a MacBook Air, but a slightly thinner MacBook Pro. Have you calculated the weight of a computer built to your these specifications? The real MBA comes in at 3 pounds (1.36 kg). Your specifications would come in at least 3.4 pounds (1.52 kg).

The arguments that you make on your website are both defensive and counterproductive. How do you know that I don't want to cut a cake with my laptop? Who are you to tell me not to be impressed with the world's thinnest notebook? If I expect Apple to produce an incredible design, then why should I accept less in the knowledge that Apple could have done it if it wanted to do so?

General Motors is considered to be in bankruptcy because it did not produce that cars that people wanted to buy. Currently Apple is producing the computers, cell phones, music players, and software that people want to buy. With the attitude that you want Apple to display, Apple could go the way of GM. Let us hope that Apple does not accept your advise.
