I'm trying to buy a portable external hard drive for my Mac OS X 10.4.6 laptop. Any suggestions?

Also, I was told I could not upgrade my version without an Intel processor, which I don't think I have. (Is ATA a processor?) Is that true? \

Thanks!!!!

Absolutely anything. There's a new 2TB portable drive out, and that's the biggest there is (if you're looking for that), otherwise you can buy anything you see.

Go to the Apple Menu and About This Mac.

Tell us what you see under "processor" and "memory".

Girl wants portable and you try and sell her a brick!

As someone with a legacy laptop, just make sure you buy a reputable brand which is also powered via USB (or firewire).

I said portable drive. It's a 2.5" drive. It's exactly what she wants.

first we need to know what you have as far as hardware, processor etc as above

go to amazon usb or firewire portables are cheap (intel processor can boot from a usb external drive)

    get clone software superduper

    clone hard drive

you may not need much, my wife's mb white c2d has 320gb so i bought a 500 iomega which worked for me well in the past

super duper allows very simple recovery if hd dies, and you can make it bootable, namely if something happens to your notebooks drive you can restart from the external in a snap

done this for 2 weeks while waiting for replacement hd (operated my wife's mb using the external--she didn't see any difference other than the cord to the small hd in a cupholder next to her air desk )

i've used western digital, iomega lots

    or even go to

otherworldcomputing.com they have their own line that's great
