In the AIRs? I think 256 GB on the SSD is a real possibility. Even 8GB of RAM might be a possibility. For a MBP 256 GB of SSD is far to little. On the AIRs the big problem is that 128 GB is just a little to small for many users.

As to dedicated GPUs I don't think we will ever see them in the AIRs. Thecnology is moving real fast here, if Intel can't give Apple the performance they want out of a single chip AMD will. Ivy Bridge should be a good upgrade for the AIRs GPU wise, as long as Apple doesn't put HiDPI displays in there. Ivy Bridge with a HiDPI screen might be a step backward.

I would love to put it something that is the most bang for the buck however I am trying to think a bit in Apple's senses here as to what they would do.

If Intel ever ships Ivy Bridge will be huge in the AIRs and to a lesser extent in the MBP. The reason IB won't be huge in the MBP is that the chip doesn't significantly improve the

CPU half of the chip. Also with the dedicated GPU, MBPs are due a significant upgrade in this area also.

Ote IB being huge in AIRs is relative to the current AiRs, the GPUs in IB still lag the AMD chips by a significant amount. Depending upon Apples GPU needs I could see them putting AMD chips in the AIRs.

Could you either PM me your suggestions or post them here? I am interested in hearing them.

Well you know what they say about opinions!

Hopefully we will know what is up by May.

They... can say anything. But I like talking about this so much, I'd like to be open to more ideas besides my own. I'm genuinely curious what people would want in a "Pro" machine. I have some ideas myself, but I'm not a Pro in the sense of the word..

Rather I want a desktop that is not a locked up platform like the Mini. Frankly the Mini is a bit underpowered for what I expect out of a desktop.

In other words I'm looking for a box that has an expansion slot or two and at least a couple of storage bays. Then GPU needs to be better than Intel integrated too. XMac as some like to call it. In a nut shell an affordable expandable/configurable Mac.

I like it and I would probably buy it especially if it could sit on my desk, was not too much bigger than the Mini yet smaller the Pro, and had a bit more to it.

Until you use a SSD equipped machine and then go back to a hard drive you have no idea how big a difference it makes and how often you actually hit the drive. 500x faster first byte latency is no small thing. More RAM plus a SSD makes a machine good for another 2-3 years until you pit it against a like equipped new machine.

I've done this, and for my work it's not that big of a deal unless the machine will not accommodate enough ram to basically hold everything there. It's not so much that ram and an ssd makes your computer faster while you work. It's that it's less likely to be held back by such factors. I'm not kidding about ram. 4-8GB is nothing.
