Google Search History Saved After Clearing Data

So this has been bugging me and I'd like to know if anyone else either has this issue or knows how to resolve it. The issue at hand is Google saving search history even after I clear all website data.



I start Safari and go to www.google.com.

I search for anything (say Steel Panther).

Search for something else (say Phil Collins).

I then close the window, then close Safari.

I go to Settings > Safari > Clear History and Clear Cookies and Data. Verified Advanced > Website Data is empty.

Close Settings and reopen Safari.

Go to www.google.com.

When I tap in the search field, the history is still there. Mind you, I hadn't signed into my Google Account when I initially searched for Steel Panther.



So, what am I missing? Is Google saving the searches elsewhere that I can't see? I don't surf for porn, so I'm not worried about people finding out my searches ("Oh no! He likes good music!"), I'm just curious why Search History is being saved even after I clear all website data.

    Make sure "Autofill for other forms" isn't on.

    "Use Contact Info" is not on. Names & Passwords is however, but I didn't sign into Google when searching.



    I just now turned Names & Passwords off, and it's still saving the search history.



    I forgot to mention I'm on iOS 5.0.1.

    I know this use to work but I don't use safari on my iPhone anymore, you have to clear it from google.com



    Step 1: Navigate to google.com under the ?Safari? icon. Sometimes the Google search bar on the iPod will keep a search history of its own. If you do not want your previous search tags popping up as you type, you can remove all of them at once by clearing it manually. To do this, start typing any letters in the Google search bar.

    Step 2: A list of your previous searches will appear underneath the search bar. On the right side of this bar, you?ll see the word ?History? with a downwards arrow attached. Tap this arrow once.

    Step 3: Press the ?Clear history? command that just popped up. Click ?OK? on the pop-up box, and your searches will be deleted.

    I know how to clear the history, that's not the issue. The issue is: how does Google know my search history if I delete all Data, Cookies and History from my phone? Is Google tracking phones specifically now?

    Because I wouldn't be surprised at all if they don't actually clear anything.



    Google just got caught being the reason behind Safari's 'block cookies from advertisers' function not working. Do you really think that ANYTHING Google says is ANYTHING like what it does?



    They'll never delete your data. They'll never stop logging what you do. It doesn't matter if there's an 'opt-out' button; you're still opted-in. You just don't know it.
