If this goes on much longer, we're all going to need a "I survived the HD format wars and all I got were these lousy coasters" T-shirt. Owning gaming consoles meant that I was invested in Blu Ray just because I purchased a PS3 and it didn't take much convincing to pick up the HD-DVD add on for the 360 when it was still a viable format. I actually picked up most of my HD-DVDs for between $0.99 and $4.99 after Toshiba declared HD-DVD 'dead' and retailers were looking to...
It may not be something that people in the market for a Pro machine care about but this is something that is going to be huge when the technology 'trickles down' to the Consumer level Macs. The MacBook, MacBook Air, Mac Mini, and even the 13 inch MacBook Pro all have integrated graphics at the moment that are lackluster at best. The types of gains Intel is making with Sandy Bridge makes the future of integrated graphics look a heck of a lot better. Despite the gains, it...
I just got back from buying my iPhone and here was my experience. I started out at a local AT&T store in Nashua around 6 AM. They were claiming they had 250 iPhones in stock. When the doors opened at 8 AM, they revealed they had 25. Being further back than 25th in line, I headed for the Apple Store in Salem, NH. By 9:15 AM, I was in line. They announced about an hour later that they had over 600 iPhones in stock and that everyone in line would definitely get one. But...
I haven't had a cell phone in years but I'm finally biting the bullet tomorrow and getting an iPhone. I got pre-approved after doing a credit check at an AT&T store and I'm very excited about having a phone that is a handheld computer. Finally, a device worthy of replacing the Newton. It doesn't hurt that I can be online wherever there is cell coverage and I've already downloaded a variety of applications so I'm all set when I bring the iPhone home tomorrow. Plus,...
I just bought a Mac Pro myself and I ordered some RAM from transintl.com. They had a sale this past weekend where I got a 4 GB kit (2x 2GB) for my Mac Pro for $328. I've heard good things about them but I don't have the RAM yet, I should get it some time later today. If anything goes wrong with it, I'll definitely post it here.
The problem is, I'm already using someone else's computer to post this. My PowerBook couldn't hold out another 3 days, never mind another 3 weeks.
Well the time finally came for me to get a new computer due to my PowerBook G4 failing and I decided I couldn't wait any longer. Given my bad luck with my last two PowerBooks, I decided to get a tower. I ended up getting the 'standard' configuration with 2x 2.66 GHz Dual Core Intel Xeon processors, 1 GB of RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256 MB graphics card, and a 16x SuperDrive. I also picked up a new printer, an Airport Extreme base station (802.11n),...
Gas around here in New Hampshire just hit about $2.99 a gallon and I thought we had it bad. Turns out that only New Hampshire and New Jersey have average gas prices under $3.00 a gallon in the entire country. Definitely feeling the impact on the wallet now, but people have to get to work and public transportation isn't an option in most rural areas.
I've been in the market for a new Mac and wanted to try out a Mac Pro as well as compare the 15" and 17" MacBook Pros. If I get a MacBook Pro, I'll wait for the next revision but I wanted to see how much bulkier the 17" was on the current model to get an idea. The Mac Edge in Nashua doesn't have any BTO Macs on the floor so I called the Apple Store in Salem and asked if they had any Mac Pros with dual core 3.0 GHz Xeons or with the ATi Radeon X1900 XT. They told me...
Check Apple.com guys. The store may still be down but the MacBook updates are true. Continue the discussion in Current Hardware.
