As hard as it is to imagine, some of us remember Apple before Steve Jobs took over as CEO from Gil Amelio in July of 1997. Let's take a trip down memory lane. In 1996-1997, Apple was hemmorhaging money. The company was making major plays for market share and had allowed other companies to license System/Mac OS 7.x and make Mac clones. Power Computing was the most notable, at one point having the fastest Mac out on the market and also undercutting Apple's prices. At the...
1.) Apple doesn't want to build a 'xMac' because it's last attempt in this market failed. Like it or not, the Cube didn't work. At the time, the Cube was what people had been asking for, a headless iMac that allowed users to upgrade the graphics card. Of course, people had also stated that because it was a "Prosumer" machine, it should have a G4 instead of a G3. When the Cube was released, people balked at the price. It didn't help that the G4 just wasn't gaining any speed...
Remember that the G5 you are talking about only came into existance after the 1.6/1.8/Dual 2.0 GHz G5s were introduced, the solo 1.8 GHz G5 was discontinued, and then the solo 1.8 GHz was reintroduced to replace the 1.6 GHz G5. It had 256 MB of RAM, an 80 GB Hard Drive, a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra with 64MB DDR SDRAM, and a 600 MHz FSB. This machine was not offered at the $1499 price tag until over a year after the G5s were released and the 3rd 'revision' was released....
I think some people are confusing the AppleTV for a computer. It's not a computer, it's a media device. With a 1 GHz Processor and 256 MB of RAM, what are you going to do with it? Even a 1.5 GHz Core Solo Mac Mini would run laps around the AppleTV. It's definitely cool that you can get Mac OS X running on it, but just because you can do it doesn't mean you should. As for the lack of a graphics card, I guess we'll have to wait and see whether Santa Rosa and the GMA...
I don't see them exiting the Mac Mini market as there are no indications that the Mini is not selling. In fact, if Santa Rosa offers what has been promised, it would be perfect for the Mac Mini. You'd have a much faster processor with an 800 MHz front side bus, improved support for integrated graphics with the GMA X3000, and 802.11n wireless. That said, it wouldn't surprise me if Apple only gave the Mini a Core 2 Duo once other Santa Rosa Macs hit the shelves. They...
First of all, it's illegal, and I'll get to that in a second. You need to remember that the first primary is still over 8 months away. That's a heck of a long time for people to make a comeback in the polls. Who knows how we'll feel about a candidate by the end of the summer? Heck, that's usually when the Presidential campaigns actually *start*. Plus, who decides what the cutoff % is for a candidate to be allowed to be a part of the debate? Should John Edwards even be...

I really don't understand why Apple isn't offering HD TV show downloads, especially with the Apple TV shipping. After all, the point of the Apple TV was to hook it up to your HDTV and the quality of the downloads offered need to be vastly improved before I actually buy shows from iTunes. I guess Apple is still looking at the shows working best with the iPod but they need to figure this out ASAP. What's even worse is that I can download most of the same shows offered...
I can't disagree with you here, and like I said in my earlier post, I'm disgusted with the way that American car companies are being run. I hate seeing the CEOs making millions of dollars a month while the companies are going down the drain. My parents always bought American cars with one exception and told me why it was important to buy American. Now even they are considering buying a Toyota for their next car. The only foreign car my parents ever bought was a Datsun...
The fact that the Japanese overtook American car makers is a national disgrace. I don't think anyone else sees it this way but I think it's a very bad sign for our country and our economy. I made this post a few weeks ago:This country has lost far too many manufacturing jobs to slave labor in Southeast Asia. We already import more goods than we export, this is not good. But this is being offset as of right now because we have a surplus of services. Still, it's not good to...
