You guys are making a mountain out of a mole hill. Looking at Apple's lineup, the following computers don't have SuperDrives: Low End Mac Mini ($599) Low End iMac ($999) Low End MacBook ($1099) In each instance, you're talking about spending an additional $200 on a Mac to get a faster processor, a SuperDrive, as well as possibly more RAM and a larger hard drive. Not everyone needs a SuperDrive and I guarantee you that if Apple did *not* have these lower priced...
The point some people are trying to make, myself included, is that what's the harm in taking some time to consider your options? I watched the press conference and if I understand things correctly, they found out this horrible news yesterday, started telling friends and family yesterday afternoon, and last night they announced that they would have a press conference today to discuss Mrs. Edwards health. To be honest, watching the repeats of the press conference on the...
This is definitely very bad news for the Edwards family, especially since there is nothing they can do to get rid of the cancer. I had an Uncle that had a terminal cancer and it was painful for him at the end. My prayers go out to her and her family. That said, I really can't understand why Senator Edwards isn't taking some time off of the campaign trail to be with his wife and family. I mean, they just heard about how bad this situation is yesterday and yet he's going...
I didn't check Good Morning America but the Today show was not broadcast in HD today, at least in my area. Maybe the Boston NBC affiliate doesn't broadcast the HD feed? Good to hear that the NBC Nightly News will be going HD on Monday though.
Apple has definitely not 'taken over the living room'. Honestly, the Apple TV started shipping yesterday and it is very unproven. Very few people have HDTVs and fewer of them are going to be interested right out of the gate in buying a device that can transfer videos to their TV. Check back in a year and see how the Apple TV is doing before declaring victory. I wish this were true but very few people have ever seen an iPhone, never mind used one. There's no doubt that it...
I own a HDTV because I won one a few years ago and my parents also have a HDTV because my Dad got it as a bonus from his work. I don't have a cable box but I'm able to get ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, NESN (which broadcasts Red Sox games), FSN (which broadcasts Celtics games), and PBS in HD over the cable wire. My parents have a cable box with their set and are able to get the same channels I listed along with ESPN, Discovery, HBO HD, Cinemax HD, Starz HD, and Showtime HD. I...
I doubt we will see this any time soon. First, you have to consider that Blu-Ray discs hold up to 50GB of data or 25GB per layer, while HD-DVDs can hold up to 30GB of data or 15GB per layer. These movies take up an incredible amount of disk space and not only would they take an incredibly long time to download, but most people don't have the storage space to store even one movie, and you would more than likely be streaming the movie to Apple TV. If you have a Mac...
To ban, or not to ban, that is the question....... Seriously though, please keep Future Hardware clear for speculation of future Apple stuff and not Apple ][s from 20+ years ago. While somewhat amusing, it does annoy people to click the link and see things from the 80s. Welcome to AppleInsider btw, enjoy your stay.
Taking a look back, there's no wonder why the rumor mill isn't the same as it used to be. Heck, Apple's not what it used to be either. The Classic Mac OS is dead, no longer supported by any currently shipping Mac. There's no such thing as a Power Mac or PowerBook any more, never mind the fact that there wasn't even an iMac at the beginning of 1998. We also can't forget that the prospect of an Intel chip in a Mac back in 1998 was unthinkable as the PowerPC had so much more...
I still think you're too optomistic. You're talking about putting out a MacBook that's basically the current MacBook Pro only $500 cheaper, with a the same screen size, a larger hard drive, and an optical drive that's only currently available in the top of the line MacBook Pro. As much as I dislike integrated graphics, I still think that's all we're going to see in the MacBooks and Mac Minis. My point, which I probably wasn't clear on, was that the MacBook Pros would need a...
