I think you mean they would give up one nut for the profits that follow behind the loyalty.  I may be missing some of the really great leadership out there, but it seems like most CEO's would rather make money than do the business the right way.  I am thinking of ATT first on that list.  Of course even ATT has had to improve over the last few years.  I actually have the number of a customer retention specialist that is able to take care of my problems now.  At least most...
The word is that the texas FAB that Apple paid Samsung to build is currently undergoing renovations to prepare for 16nm development so it is offline and that pretty much tells you that Apple is using the supplier from Taiwan.  Switching process systems is no trivial matter at this level of production. Apple probably made this processor update as simple as possible to make the yeild curve easier to manage.  I would not be surprised if Apple used Samsung to develope the...
Actually, judge Koh seems to be very honest and straight forward. Her point that a second settlement should equal at least the prior settlement is impossible to refute. The second class shows that the activity was widespread and therefore more damaging. Apple and Steve Jobs have made mistakes and this is one of them.
I can promise you that AT&T does not do this for its customers.  They invented the on hold and layers of control just to keep customer's from bothering them.  AT&T:  we are now offering combined billing for all your customer service needs.  Not mentioned was the billing is combined for charges on your late payment, but it is not combined for rebates to separate types of account credits.  AT&T owes me for overcharging me on my cell bill, but they expect me to still pay them...
We certainly don't have a fair taxation system today. Rather than give the government more ways to collect money unfairly maybe we could simply make the current system less complex and less easy to game. Better government is certainly better than no government. Just look at Irag or Syria if you need a refresher course on why we need a government. The only new tax I would add would be a tax on having more than one child. The need for a permanent reversable form of...
It is not hard to see a monopolist at work here. Kill any creative part of the revenue stream and claim that ebooks are nothing more than a word file for sale. A book is much more than a simple word file. It is a creation from idea to sale that involves way more than just the author's voice. How is the author going to come out ahead here? The price Amazon is offering is still below market value. There is no provision here for the editor, art work, type setting, and...
I was really struck by how prescient the speech by Steve Jobs was in 2001 after the introduction of os X.  I looked it up because I forgot exactly when he made the presentation.   He was talking about how he saw the Mac as a digital hub way back then.  I think the how of what Apple does with home automation tech is way more important than the choice of device.  Apple laid the groundwork for a bunch of new devices at the developer conference this year.  The software is the...
My Mother has always been a big fan of the NYTimes. I have subscribed for a short while, but never seemed to get enough to warrant the high cost. Last time I cancelled they kept sending us papers and bills for 3 months. NY Times is dying and this weak journalism is strong evidence of how painful their situation has become. We need strong journalists to keep an open society. This is not a good thing, but it is real.
"I'd do a simplified two-tier flat tax. I would be carving into regulations with the aim of getting govt. out of the way of capitalism. No complicated VAT or weird mumbo-jumbo that no one understands. No need for accountants. And, bonus, very difficult to politicize. The labyrinth tax code gives rise to political favors and endless tinkering as one party or another shoves benefits to their base of voters (such as this suggested tax holiday).   Get politicians out of it....
I agree with the more common sense reports here. Some times I wonder if Eddy Cue has the chops to handle all Apple's internet businesses. Apple has never been as strong here. Jobs was not as Internet savvy as the guys at Google.
