I am sure that Apple is a good investment right now.  Mainly  because they are the only market entrant who has a product that they control all the components of.  Intel and Microsoft have already gone separate ways so now there is no one else with this scale and control. The Chinese competitors are much more of a competitor then anyone else and they are dependent on Google for their platform.     The Apple watch is just more of the same magic.  Control the product, the...
The scope and flow of the Apple product range and its effect on the daily habits of billion of customers is just mindblowing. The only bit of history that was left out was Steve jobs talking about his vision for a connected living room back in 2001. That was when Apple was still thinking in terms of dvd's, and introducing OS X 10.1. I think the contrast between that keynote and Bill Gates key notes could not be any starker. One laid out Apple's vision for the next...
How do you find out if you are in this class of lottery winners? I would love to use this to buy a new macbook pro for christmas!
Gatorguy, I have been impressed that you generally don't try to play fanboy, and you raise the discussion over all, but I do think on this one you are missing the trees for looking at the forest.  Why can't Google aim for a large market with it's own product?  They make it and control everything about it, why is that still just another run of the mill mishmash?  I say this partly from my Wife's experience with the Nexus 5 phone.  I works, sort of...if you ignore how often...
I would like to see more information about how long this 35% increase in research budget has been going on? I suspect it started after Steve Jobs died in 2011. I am glad they have not tried to spend more than this. They already have the sapphire debacle to work out, and they don't need any more growth because any faster would kill the companies culture.
I would guess that Apple has some other new products waiting for the Broadwell ramp. There is a decent possibility that broad well was going to make a new form factor possible.
You are correct about the price following income growth.  It is pretty hard for Wall Street or anyone to pass up low PE and solid growth.  The only reason Apple needs to spend money on it's own stock is it has been so successful for so long, it has a large number of shareholders who are way overweight in this stock.  If you put 5% of a $1,000,000 portfolio in Apple during October 2004, you are sitting on $1,500,000 in Apple stock.  The rest of your portfolio is probably...
The last chart really jumps out of the best page screaming why!!?? Why can't Apple make an upgrade able computer? How many people who care about gaming as a use case would love be to have just one PCI slot to add a video card to! Look at the lack of "truck" sales in that chart. Apple needs another computer product so they can compete in the broader pc desktop class pc's. The whacko tosh community would shrink by half, and games would finally get first class treatment on...
It is more complicated than you imply. Apple has to use Samsung's recipe for making the actual chip.  There are very significant interplays between the chip and the foundry that effect the quality of the product.  Intel still has the best foundry.  They lack the best design for mobile because they tried to deny where the technology was taking them.  Low power was not Intel's strong suit.  ARM and Power chips have always been ahead of Intel in this area.  While Denson...
And Apple will benefit from Samsung's well run foundry and research in electronics.  This is exactly what the market wants. Apple to continue to make innovative products.  Samsung to make good parts and a few knock off me too devices for the Android market.     Sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for.  Samsung dying is not a good thing for America, Apple or Korea.  Samsung making longterm profits from copying Apple is not good either.  I would suspect that Tim...
