Google: We have the world largest warez tracker with Google search engine. We have the world largest pirated video collection in YouTube. If your pirated stuff its here, its up to you to demand that its taken down. Meanwhile we make money of it. We have people in Apples board room that saw the Iphone prototypes. We cloned the Iphone. We track our users, datamine and other fun stuff. We love knowing gender, telephone number and other stuff so we can get higher...
Different stuff for different people. I want to look at blu rays. Had to buy an MacMini with graphic card to be able to see bluray. Worked great. Then Bluray 3D was released and I had to swap to a HDMI 1.4 MacMini. Why have 50 inch TVs and watch 720P? Only blu ray have the full 1080P resolution. Its also fun to have a couple of thousends of TV shows/movies connected to the mini using thunderbolt/USB.
I would buy THREE A6 headless macs, but it wont happen. The reason why Apps are not available in todays AppleTV is because Apple is holding out for the Apple LCDTV. If Apple is going to release a LCDTV we will probably not see an upgraded AppleTV. I know about the AppleTV 3.1 drives. But we should have seen this product last year with A5. (and when I still dream: I want an A6 Time Capsule so that I can get more then 6Megabyte against the USB disks. Even a 4 bay A6 Time...
I hate these analysts. They have zero clue about products and technology. They just throw out numbers, nothing more. 1) The analyst believe that Apple LCDTV will be released world wide. Not even the AppleTV is released world wide. 2) 17 Billion in revenue is totally uninteresting since almost all LCD/Plasma vendors looses money on a 300Billion industry. The profit is interesting, not the revenue. The Apple LCD TV project is instresting since it will pair a fast A...
And they took it from Patently Apple. Its a small Apple rumor world. The thing that irritates me is when some idiotic GermanPC magazine reports that Ipad3 will be released in autum 2011 and that story spreads like wild fire in the Apple rumor sites. Apple rumor sites starts to use each other as reference. Then Forbes and Yahoo starts to report that Apple insider said that Ipad 3 is on the way 3 month after the German magazine that have zero clue reported it. But......
Apple puts stuff like DDR2 controllers, NOVA and the voice chip into its SoC. That is why its 30% larger then other SoCs. So yes. Apple uses standard ARM cores, but the stuff around is Apple specific. You can look at any benchmark and see the huge different between the Apple SoC and Tegra2 for example. Exactly the same ARM cores, but Apple are much faster (thanks to the memory interface and other stuff).
This is Apple (and all other "closed vendors") advantage. Apple is in an unique position to customize its SoC with stuff that they want to use in iOS (and later OSX when they are merged). This patent is one more evidence in this brilliant strategy. Take A5. 1 year after its release there is no other ARM SoC that have the same performance in real world tasks. Even the single core A4 performed within 8% with dual core Tegra's. A5 is a "huge" ARM SoC. Its 30%...
Moto/Google are insane. Apple pays for example Nokia 1 dollar per 3G device. Moto/Google may have right for the same amount. Still many many millions.
' Raw power. Yes. Intel is faster. But you can program stuff better with RISC and SIMD. In 2002 the fastest PC was AMD 1.5ghz. Encoding a DVD took 15 hours on AMD. On Powerbook 667mhz it took 90 minutes thanks to Altivec. Intelligence is something that Apple have and elegance is better then raw power. Raw power is for Windows since they cant optimize anything since there are millions of different PC configurations. You are also comparing 130 watt Intel to 2 watt ARM....
You know that its impossible with X86 to be power efficient? The architecture makes the CPU to large. Large CPU leads to heat, more cost and more energy. X86 is many things. Not fastest, not most power efficient. X86 have always "won" since Windows support it and that processor are cheap compared to RISC processors. Remember that RISC went 64bit in 1995 and that first with Win7 64bit is widespread in the X86 world. And that is with 64bit extensions, not true/pure...
