What product is Apple is working on that requires a chunk of sapphire that weighs 578 pounds, or even half that?    I don't know how the boules are turned into a finished product but it would seem that making pieces of sapphire which are maybe up to 6" diagonal and a couple millimeters thick would be applicable to products that can be carried around in your pocket or on your wrist. Even using it for a 23" touch screen iMac would not need 578 pounds in a single block.
Will such tech finally put an end to people feeling compelled to apologize for the crappy quality of their photos because they were taken with a phone? Even tech on the market today is so far past what we had just 5 or 6 years ago it seems to me that most of the quality problems have more to do with factors other than the quality of the sensors. Sure it might have been easier to get an even better shot with a full DSLR camera on a tripod with reflectors and secondary light...
What if you do not have a computer at all?  There are different grades of flash chips - I would hope that at $50 the overall quality of materials and perhaps even the chip type (MLC, eMLC, SLC, etc) would be higher grade than the $8 thumb drive at the check out counter of the local grocery store.
Aw crap why isn't it illegal for technology to not work the way I expect it? Of course if it were, then pretty much everyone at Microsoft would be in jail. It does seem that 3 years is an egregious length of time for this not to be fixed - and that the system should have been designed from the beginning to determine when an iMessage was not being delivered an automatically resend it via SMS. What about (perhaps very fews) cases where you no longer have any phone linked...
Oh so maybe the 'unsustainable' we heard about was they were no longer able to take money from Apple and give nothing in return.
Ah ha ha ha ha ha haaaaaaaaa ha ha ha ha ha, omg, ha ha ha ahhhhhhh. Can't wait until someone hacks into a coach's Surface and steals the opposing team's playbook.
Unless one side so grossly overestimated the potential - either intentionally or otherwise - that in the end there could be no solution. What is "unsustainable contract terms"? Is that not another way of saying "we could not live up to our end of the bargain"?
Riiiiiight, the similarity in name was the only obstacle to success.    Why not InFon or InFone or InPhone for India Phone? Or iTalk, or any of a myriad of possibilities.    Maybe I am missing something here but how many investors base their decisions on nothing more than a catchy name? Could it be that the investors backed out when Apple became their competition in the market segment for the device regardless of the name?    You do have to wonder how many companies...
True - and I suppose if they know which car is yours then taking your keys vs your phone is about the same. But if there is a way to spoof the ID then someone could just walk through a parking lot with a code scanner.  I have at times hidden keys on a car - in one case at the beach instead of leaving the car keys with our stuff on the beach it was hidden in the car.  Not that many people do - but it would be easier to lock up your car keys that your phone - and if you...
So if someone steals your phone you can't get home because you can't get into your car. Or they can take your phone and then use it to steal your car.    Of course if you have a password/touch ID setup they wouldn't get very far.    I am not sure how al the NFC works but if there is a way to spoof the chip ID then it could be a big security risk - though with pairing and such there are likely multiple bits of data flowing between the devices. A case where the car...
