If the cases are welded shut, how do they know a G5 is inside? Did it have one of those big emblems on as did the Blue G3 series had? [ 01-15-2003: Message edited by: alfredh ]

I have a mac with 9.2.2 and I cannot mount a CD. I put the cd on a pc and I see norton FS volume and index files (as well as he freehand 9 files). I see the cd contents on other macs running os 8.1, 9.2.2 and os X. The os 8.1 machine has only 8.1 on it. It is not a dvd either! Any clues?

Sheesh, Have you never heard of John Travolta.
Its now 9.00am in Frankfurt and the Apple store is still open. I suppose I need to wait for a few hours before kicking myself for believing our Apple contact. How about I get him to meet in a chat room so we can all ask where the new machines (laptops) are. Damn, Damn, Damn. I could have been using a new ibook my now if I had not listed to him. Sorry everyone for the false alarm. Alf. - he turns off his Mac and enrols in a retraining course as a DEC PDP specialist.
I wanted to buy a laptop from our Apple Sales rep and he told me to hold off until October 15th. He said apple has lots of new things to announce over the comming months and that October would be the one for laptops. This was the same guy who, way back in June, told me that my ibook performance problems would be solved in August but Jaguar was released and not a better book! Just food for thought. Alf.

Yeah! What a jerk the sales guy is. I mean, he was no where near vague enough for it to be true! Anyway, I bet you couldn't re-arranged the sales guys name to spell 'mud rats soon'. Alf [ 09-16-2002: Message edited by: alfredh ]

Just because everyone has heard of X86(intel) doesn't mean its automatically good. It's like saying that McD's is the best hamburger and that nothing could be better than VHS just because everyone uses it. I also saw that article about Apple having an x86 compatible version of OS X but if they ported it to x86 then they could also port it to another platform. Someone mentioned Apple would be better off doing their own chip and I certainly agree with that. Alf (didn't ...
Come Jan/Feb we will probably see a bump to 1.6Ghz which will keep the Mac in line with the top P4 to be released. After this the PowerMac G4 will probably cease to be and the next gen Powermac X1 (or whatever new name they think of) will be released (probably Aug/Sept) with a totally different processor/io/fsb etc. The case colour will change to reflect the new processor etc. I reckon any benchmarking against PC's will now need to be done will Dual 3Ghz P4's as well. The...
