"Apple is going to survive on 3rd world countries with Free phones in 2011 and then ask Microsoft & Google for another Loan to pull them out of the fire." What a sack of ordure you are, NonVendorFan. The "loan" to which you undoubtedly allude was actually a payoff from Billy Boy Gates and his criminal enterprise to Apple Computer (then) for stealing (YES, STEALING!) QuickTime code in 1994. No loan, sir or madam. Rather, a bribe to keep MSFT out of court and their CEO...
I'm with you, Trajectory! Send those jobs around the world to China, India, Malasia, Mexico, et al. That is, any other growing economy that will NOT, I repeat N-O-T, endorse this sky is falling mantra of global warming. Cripple the US! Down with the old regime! Long live 20+% unemployment! Hail the workers' paradise that is the US . . . and ignore all those impenetrable brown clouds that are wafting from the east. Down with the old guard, and damn the US CEO's to...
@ chronster "It just sucks that Apple feels the need to alienate pre owners . . . ." Uh, perhaps it's just me, but why would Apple give a rat's ass what any Pre owner thinks? Didn't that person already "alienate" Apple by purchasing an iPhone competitor, a truly inferior one that does not possess a legitimate iTunes option? Do you REALLY believe that any company should go out of its way to "be nice" to a competitor by enabling its bottom line in this fashion? Such is...
"Last week, Palm said it intends to respond to the USB-IF, noting that it believes consumers should have "freedom and choice" when transferring media to personal devices." Undeniable truth: Palm has the right to eat as much food as they want from their (own) company refrigerator in order to stay alive. They do NOT have the right to take food from someone else's box to effect the same result. Period. Want to survive and thrive, Palm? DEVELOP YOUR OWN DAMNED "IPRE"...
"Palm announced Thursday that it sold 823,000 smartphones last quarter, a year-over-year decrease of 30 percent." And yesterday's headline here that Palm "beat analysts' expectations" makes any sense at all? This company should be sold ASAP and the money given back to the shareholders . . . if there are any left.
I am COMPLETELY confused here, folks! According to another site (MDN), on which the title of the article is "Beleaguered Palm’s loss widens 293% year-over-year to $164.5 million, sales badly miss expectations" . . . . ""Sales fell to $68 million, badly missing analysts' forecasts of $291 million," Goldman reports. So which is it? "Palm Pre beats expectations" or "Palm is going down the crapper?"
"Proposed Orange-T-Mobile merger centered around iPhone" With all due respect and deference to the headline writer . . . One cannot CENTER AROUND anything. One can CENTER ON something, of course, but "around"? Never. Otherwise, an interesting article.
"First of all, if it weren't for the assistance of France, the colonial revolt that resulted in the creation of the U.S. and its Constitution would have almost certainly have failed. Perhaps another later revolt might have succeeded or the colonies might have achieved independence in another way, but there's no certainty that the country you live in would be the same one you are lucky enough to live in today. So, the next time you want to bash the French, why don't you...
@phalanx, "That is why the they bailed them out financially years ago." Sorry, "phal," but Microsoft did no such thing. When little Billy G's company sent $150 million to Apple "years ago," it was to keep himself and his company out of jail! Microsoft (via one of its supposed "subcontractors) was caught red-handed stealing the code from QuickTime to make its own media support system. Yes, STEALING THE CODE. Gotcha! The settlement of this matter, accomplished out of...
Yeah, yeah, yeah. We're "gonna," we're "about ta'," we "promise to," etc., etc., etc. Remember what a "killer" the Pre was going to be before IT was finally released unto the world? Same thing here. Potemkin villages look really, really solid from a fast-moving train. It's the slow, considered, deliberate observation that reveals its lack of a structural foundation. More crap here from the desperate. No innovation, no creativity, no research, no expansion of...
