a quote from the NYT article today ...
OMG, are those real ... as in reached market?
I think that is a flat out daft terrible idea. Unless and until one company wields monopoly power over the smart phone market (I don't even foresee that as happening, ever), the courts have absolutely no business in such a debate. That is what markets are for and consumers will decide this with their wallets. Besides, King Solomon has bigger fish to fry.
Who said you can't make calls from it ?? ... of course you can. Not that that is the reason that I or most people would get one, but Skype should work just fine ...
Its got to be pretty harsh to read comments from your ex-mistress in the press making you sound like a hapless dweeb. All's fair in love and war and all but the way that Goog went about this really sounds like duplicity; utterly shameful and par for the course.
Word has arrived that he has passed on this morning. It did sound dire. Condolences to his family.
I've been waiting to see what Apple would do about the copyists ... Browsing the lawsuit docs, it gets way too technical for me to decipher. I'll be content to let the courts sort it out. Interesting to see Next listed there on the first page. A lot of the patents seem to do with object oriented programing ... Snow Leopard is mentioned a bunch, and iTunes to a lesser extent. Remember well the initial iPhone unveiling and how near the end, Jobs touted the 200 patents...
While some things bother me about their approach, the live home screen includes some new ideas that have real merit. I would hope that Apple can implement some of this, but as an option. (Who knows, perhaps its an option for this windows version too, can't say yet.) Not so crazy about their typographic implementation. Ok, so baby boomers have tired eyes but too much real estate is being given to some of these headers ... Also, it is so freaky to have the type so large...
Perhaps will be handy for reducing inventory of the old Kindles once the touch-screen revision comes out ... but that won't be until fall I would think. I really don't see the advantage for Amazon if they only break even or a small loss on the unit if they just want to promote their eBooks. They will sell plenty of eBooks for use on the iPad and Kindle both. They'd be wise not to freak out. Just keep improving the bookstore. I haven't used a Kindle or even held one,...
Fortunately, the iPad is about a lot more than eBooks. I have no idea what titles I might purchase to read that way. Most likely on impulse when traveling. Or even more likely, if some titles appear whose content is some new hybrid form of book/video/animation amalgam, in which case, it would only be a book in part. I will still enjoy the printed page and buying new and used books and there will still be a very healthy market for them for longer than I would bother to...
