I've seen this phone mentioned too. It's worth tracking down some footage on YouTube to see just how far from the iPhone it was. I'm sure they were working on it long before the iPhone debuted. It shows very few signs of being inspired by the iPhone. The same goes for the Prada phone, which anticipated none of the iPhone's UI elements, although it was first to the market with a capacitive touchscreen. I'm sure LG gave up on the "Apple copied us" idea shortly after using an...
It's true that there are many ridiculous patents, especially in software, but it's equally true that in this case one company (Apple) single-handedly introduced an extremely innovative product in the mobile space and another company (Google) blatantly copied them and then released that software to other companies (Samsung, HTC, et al) in a way that has made them liable for any patent infringements. It's easy to say, in retrospect, that Apple's innovations were "obvious",...
This would make me believe all the rumours about the iPhone 5 coming in September or later.
If you add 7 million iPads to Apple's numbers it looks roughly like this:Apple 36%HP 19%Dell 16%Toshiba 7%Acer 6%Other 16%Not bad.EDIT: Duh. Stupidly added international iPad figures to US sales. Disregard.
I doubt they'll sell it in the US. There are many markets where prepaid phones dominate. Not just developing countries but in some European countries prepaid phones are more popular than contracts. Apple needs to a lower cost phone to compete in those markets. In the US the prepaid market is much smaller so it's not a priority.
From what they say on the video either FCP is on the iPad or it can use the iPad in some way. They're talking about FCP having multitouch interaction. I guess we'll find out soon enough.
I don't think there's any truth to the delay rumours. Even if we don't see the iPhone 5 at WWDC it might just be because they wanted to do a separate event. It never made much sense to do major product releases at a developers conference anyway. Maybe Apple just wants more control over when and how they announce it. It's weird how everyone says it won't be in June and then cites August or September, completely forgetting that the month of July exists. Maybe they want to...
Google bought Android before the iPhone was announced. But Android was a Blackberry clone. After the iPhone was announced they quickly worked to make it touch-based. The first Android phones still required a Blackberry-style trackball and didn't have multitouch. They gradually added features to reach feature parity with the iPhone: dropping reliance on the trackball, adding multitouch like pinch to zoom, improving the onscreen keyboard, etc. They didn't get touch-based...
It basically confirms what I've always thought: Samsung, Motorola, et al, are successfully up-selling their dumb phone customers to Android but their overall growth is static. So you have Apple growing its number of mobile subscribers, while everyone else is either losing subs or remaining static, but the others are moving their own dumb phone customers to smart phones, which means they show dramatic growth when you just look at smart phones. The reason Android has such...
While it's nice that Apple is competitive in this area, I don't think it's a huge deal. When you're on a yearly upgrade cycle, there's just not enough time for developers to really max out the performance of a CPU/GPU. Very few developers have the capability to do so anyway. It's the software that really makes the difference. Current Android games still look two generations behind iOS games because the platform has yet to attract A-list developers. This is true even when...
