What would actually make this really interesting would be to know what revenues MS actually get from retail versions of office. After all this isn't revenues from small business or enterprise which would make up the majority of office revenue. Looking at my last receipt from Microsoft the VAT has been calculated at 15% which indicate Luxemburg. Interestingly when I get paid by Microsoft as an app developer they vary from paying me from Luxemburg and Ireland. I don't think the tax change will affect prices that much. I agree with this. I think Microsoft realized a few years ago that to win in the software market your products need to run anywhere. We've seen it with Xbox Music, sky drive, dev tool offerings, Azure even has Linux and Oracle offerings.Its now also my one big complaint with Apple. Users are what market share is based on. What other perspective can you use to determine if something is serious or not other than the users. A messaging service where there is no possibility of messaging 86% of smartphone users (Google search said current iPhone UK market share is 13.6%) can hardly be called serious. For the record I use iMessage and Facetime on an almost weekly basis to communicate with family as we all have iPads and Macs. Errr yeah, fairly massive one. SMS messages alone generate around 60 billion in revenue every year. Except for Skype, Facebooks current messenger, Viber, WeChat, Nimbuzz, plus don't Google and Yahoo also have cross platform alternatives. Twitter isn't far off being comparable either.
