The repair for my Macbook Pro 17-inch Early 2011 was actually VERY CHEAP. When my Macbook Pro's GPU failed after 3 years, and after the expiration of my Applecare warranty, I took my Macbook Pro to my Apple Store and after having the Genius examine it, I asked for Apple's $299 FLAT-RATE REPAIR. Apple's $299 FLAT-RATE REPAIR is a HUGE BARGAIN - particularly for an out of warranty Mac. The Apple Store ships it to one of Apple's main repair centers. There they examine the...
Samsung is looking to be ignored completely.  It is laughable.     The iPhone 6 is the mother of all upgrades.  Everything else will be obliterated.  Even the Internet will be clogged by all the news about it.
Microsoft's biggest problem is that it has nothing to sell that attracts customers to the store.   Windows is already pre-installed on PCs.  Microsoft Office is already pre-installed on PCs - at least in a trial state.   Microsoft sells no PCs other than the Surface Pro tablet.   X-Box and its games are already sold in numerous venues - Gamestop, Walmart, Target, Costco, Best Buy, etc.    Microsoft accessories - like keyboards, mice, etc. are already sold in...
For doing video work, which is highly labor intensive, the MacBook Pro with 16 GB RAM - using Intel's graphics processor Quicksync technology for hardware H.264 compression -  is twice as fast when doing H.264 compression as the best MacPro model.   Since H.264 compression is usually highly resource intensive, it is remarkable that Intel was able to do add hard-ware compression on its Haswell  and Sandy Bridge consumer CPUs (not in the Xeon Processor unfortunately) that...
Apple products are about engineering compromises and Apple's design choice to keep things as simple as possible.   Clearly, doubling the RAM to 32 GB will only benefit the very top 2% of people who do heavy duty work on a MacBook Pro.  These people would only buy the highest-top-end configuration for the MacBook Pro (the $3600  MacBook Pro 15-inch Retina Display, 1 TB PCIe SSD, 2.8 GHZ Quad-core Intel Core i7 CPU with discrete nVidia GeFore GT 750M 2 GB GDDR5 GPU with...
This judge is prejudiced and simply evil wrong.  She needs to be tried and convicted - preferably with U.S. 9th Circuit Court Chief Judge Alex Kozinski's favorite outcomes.
Pathetic. All Samsung is doing is insuring more people will switch to the iPhone 6. The iPhone 6 is the mother of all upgrades. Samsung is desperately trying to avoid the Typhoon, Hurricane, Earthquake and Tsunami that is coming right at it.
OS X = UNIXiOS is a form of UNIX.They are the most popular forms of the UNIX operating system in the world. But Windows is still a force. It is one of Microsoft's Core Competencies that earns Microsoft $16 BILLION a year no matter what happens to the economy.   Unfortunately Balmer flubbed with Windows 8.  So, like Steve Jobs did with the transition to Mac OS X from OS 9,  Nadella can transition Microsoft to a better Windows 9. In the fight against Google, Apple needs...
Excellent Article. Microsoft is lost and can't find its way. Microsoft's bread, butter and core competencies are: 1) Office. 2) Windows 3) Enterprise and Data Services. Yet why is its CEO Nadella forgetting about core competency #1 and #2, in favor of #3 and some nebulous new "Mobile" for which Microsoft has no competence much less a way of defining it? Nadella is still on training wheels. He simply is no Steve Jobs. Google's core competency is ads and search. And...
Now Nadella's remarks about Microsoft's direction makes sense. They were corporate-speak for massive layoffs. And they indicate that Microsoft still is rudderless.
