Judging from those unrelated comments, you obviously do not "get it" at all.   Writing replacement Android launchers does not require any access to OS source code. iOS does not provide public APIs for writing replacement launchers.  Android does. Yes, it's just a launcher with no other changes to the system.    Android launchers are apps like any other app, and can be written and distributed and downloaded and installed or changed by anyone.   Instead of being...
Yes, I'm familiar with those.  Apple records a sale when shipped.  Samsung records the sale when delivered.   Both companies record the sale when the burden of ownership has passed to someone else and payment is assured.   Notice also that with Samsung, "if product sales are subject to customer acceptance, revenue is not recognized until customer acceptance occurs".     Not a claim.  Fact.  Court records from last year's Koh trial gave us Samsung's US tablet...
The Reuters and other articles I read said it came from mid-tier phones.   They also said that the record-breaking earnings growth was "fueled by" high end phones like the Galaxy S and Note series.   I suspect it's a bit of each:  low, mid and high.     So how do you feel about Apple being hit with a half billion dollar fine (that will probably rise to over $1 B after the next trial) for their Facetime patent violations?   Apple reports profits the same way: from direct...
As I mentioned, it's not my analysis.  This came from a Forbes article.   And, while you're right that they might've sold the Home division for less (or more!) than what they "paid", it doesn't matter either way.   The point is, Google will not have anywhere near the oft-quoted $12.5 billion sunk into the only parts they care about: the Motorola phone division and its patents.
Yes.  Removing scrollbars altogether was a classic example of "throwing the baby out with the bath water".   As you noted, others quickly realized this and many apps now have scrollbars that appear when flicking.   E.g. when scrolling through hundreds of TV channels on Optimum's app.
This has nothing to do with open source.   It's about the OS having public APIs to do things that some other OSes (e.g. iOS - (*)) reserve for themselves.   This is simply a replacement launcher, which is basically the app that runs when you click the Home button.  With Android, any user can replace the stock launcher(s) with one of their own choice.   There are many such replacements available for Android.  They might display big icons / SMS / email for seniors, or can...
There's no actual method or apparatus claimed in this updated patent.   The patent simply claims various combinations of the idea of putting a translucent window or image on top of others, with or without input.   This claim of owning translucent overlays is a prime example of a software patent that should never have been granted.       However, the ITC often overturns preliminary judge findings, so we'll see what actually ends up happening.
Various Apple patents and trademarks have been invalidated in the US as well.   If Apple did as you and some others have suggested, they'd run out of places to sell their products.
Correct.  As you said, it would still work, though.   The iPhone 4 had a separate Audience speech processor. The iPhone 4S built the second generation Audience processor into its SoC. The iPhone 5 did the same, but it's apparently not being used, perhaps due to a patent fight.   The primary reason for Apple requiring the second generation processor was reportedly because of its ability to filter speech when the device was held far away from the mouth.   With the...
Hopefully this is a poorly made joke.   The only South Korean goods made in North Korea, are those produced in the shared Kaesong Industrial Zone... and that's just low tech items such as clothes, shoes, watches, etc.   Various economic and security sanctions prohibit the manufacture or use of higher technology in North Korea.     .
