Any improvement over MobileMe is welcome, but to really knock this out of the park it needs to be the official dropBox for iDevices and as others have hoped, a way to cut the tether. There should be a file pool locally stored on the device but always synced to other computers/devices on same account (like DropBox). This would make things so much easier for serious work on an iPad. Use a sweet iPad app to create an art or music asset, sit down at your computer and find it...
At the most basic level, this is Microsoft doing what Apple already did with MacOS X. Instead of building different OSs from different hardware it builds one core OS (Windows 8 or MacOS X) and then builds what is needed for the different user interfaces on top of that (Windows 8 tablet/phone or iOS). The benefit is that you aren't multiplying the work of maintaining the trickiest stuff (kernel, new hardware support) and can focus on the differences in UI and higher level...
Back when the iPad was first released I imagined it being used as an extension to desktop apps in a more meaningful way than has been done up until now. Adobe creating a Photoshop specifically for this type of interaction is awesome and something I expected from Apple in a more widely available fashion. Adobe beat Apple to the punch here. As for pricing, the "rental" thing is a fine alternative. There have been times where it could have helped me out. I don't use that...
I think the OP meant focused on games and gaming, something Apple isn't.
I presume a tablet from Gamestop would have a standardized physical controller of some kind, something Apple doesn't seem to want. It would go a LONG way to attracting game devs. On the other hand, it would be a hard, hard sell at this point. Huge advantages with going with a mature and polished iPad with so many other uses than games. If anything I hope all this talk gives Apple a little push to at least acknowledge iOS game enthusiasts who want more than the touch...
Took me a second to get that. Nice one! Lol.On a separate note:Really? You didn't present a copy of the offending advertising? Really?
How many millions of those monitors does NEC expect to sell? Apple expects to sell at least 20 million iPads with the screens. If I was a supplier with that kind of reasonable assurance, the price can come WAY down. Just sayin'. I still find all this dual core graphics processor, dual core Arm, retina display AND cameras AND a motor to be a bit pie-in-the-sky. Next up, 3D without glasses. Why not? All that being said, the consumer in me really wants all those things...
One of the biggest surprises at CES is Windows on ARM. Also, NVIDIA is developing ARM chips now. Big stuff. If that's underwhelming, all of CES is underwhelming. No mention of the next-gen Surface? I thought it was pretty sweet looking. It's only inches thick now and is sensitive enough to read text on a piece of paper you place down on top of it. (Per pixel sensitivity.) It's going to be much more affordable (no specifics) too. Looked very impressive and a step towards...
Forcing prompts to rate an app you keep using, is still forcing a pop up right when you are trying to do something else. Minimizing that is a good idea. Maybe Apple should make an App that is all about feedback, rating and sharing things you like. Nintendo has a decent one in their Nintendo Channel for the Wii. It's novel to go and just check out how long you've spent time in any game, and then you're there, so why not rate it? That app could wait until you've used an App...
This is the first rejection I really disagree with Apple on. It is traditional for Apple to lead the way on its platform attempting to show the best ways for apps to run on their devices. To then punish someone for being consistent with Apple's shining example is detrimental to the platform. It just is. There may be some specific patent that is being breached here that would weaken their current litigation if they simply let it fly. I hope it's something technical like...
