Having skipped the iPad 4 I hope the iPad 5 will be a good replacement for my iPad 3.
Smaller volume, less weight, longer battery life, and less warming up will be welcomed.
Much more CPU and GPU power will be expected

I think most users of smart phones don't give the OS of their mobile phone a single thought.
My own favorite: After introducing the iPhone 5S Apple will keep the iPhone 4.
The iPhone 4 would be updated with the new single core A5r3 (cheaper to produce than the A4) and both the 4 and the 4S would switch to the Lightning connector.
And for those with a passion for big screens: The iPhone 5SL - 4.5" screen with a 1280x720 resolution.
Just to hound Samsung
They did that once and they were way off. After that they have never again shown their own estimates but used Apple's numbers instead. From that single point of data my estimate is the error band for IDC's numbers is at least 20% (and my own error band is 100% ).
