LOL, except for about a third of the posters at tech media sites.
Well, that would require some sort of journalistic integrity, and true journalism died in the Nineties.   Sorry about that.
We know AppleInsider usually avoids mentioning the track record of its sources -- perhaps the most important and relevant piece of data regarding such posts -- and Charlie Wolf is one of those sources with a poor track record.   Wolf is not a four- or five-star rated analyst according to Starmine (a service which rates the financial predictions accuracy of professional financial analysts). Note that oft-quoted analysts like Munster, Wu, and Huberty also fail to make...
AppleInsider screwed up the graphic.   The article describes the Gartner analysis (and the original graphic that SolipsismX quoted reflect those numbers), but they have bungled their updated graphic and replaced it with numbers from the IDC report.   Amusingly, there is a typo in the updated graphic.   This is an AppleInsider F-A-I-L.
According to Gartner, Lenovo and Asus are the primary contributors to the Other category.   More revealing is the fact that the non-Apple PC business is actually doing worse.   Here are the numbers if you subtract Apple's sales numbers from the rest of the industry. 2Q12 (ex-Apple): 13997 2Q11 (ex-Apple): 15047   That's a -6.96% decline for non-Apple PC manufacturers. The -5.7% PC industry decline is being propped up by Apple.   Gartner is not including media tablet...
Realistically, it will not replace your wallet.   You would still need to carry a wallet around with government issued identification as well as a credit/debit card for merchants who do not support NFC transactions, and maybe even cash. San Francisco's best dive bars don't take cards, nor do most of the vendors at the local farmers' markets. There are a bunch of noodle shops, taquerias and other mom-and-pop restaurants around here that are cash-only too.   However, it...
You are wrong.   The Americas collectively refer to North America, Central America, and South America (political regions), or North America and South America (the geographical continents).   In normal conversation amongst laypeople though, when someone refers to "America", it is really a shorthand for saying the "United States of America." This carries over to the adjective as well. When someone says "American" it typically means "from the United States of America". If...
Well, we never really have the whole story, even if it's our own. There's probably a lot of behind-the-scenes politics with EPEAT that we will never hear about. It is likely that we will hear little if anything about EPEAT after this. After all, Apple bailed out of the US Chamber of Commerce in 2009 and we've heard virtually nothing about that episode since then. Many things just die away with little fanfare.Despite all of the hand wringing here, it is unlikely that we will...
Amusingly, if you search for "remove glue" on Google, it returns 19.6 million results.   Maybe it's not such a big deal after all.
My guess is that Apple considers the EPEAT criteria to be woefully out of date and thus, no longer worth supporting in 2012. There are possibly other behind-the-scenes political motivations behind the status change.   It is unlikely that Apple would ever come out directly against EPEAT, which is explains their thinly veiled language.   Apple has disassociated itself from other groups that it no longer felt worth supporting. Apple Inc. pulled out of the US Chamber...
