I know you have a man crush on me but Relic wrote that and not me. Of course, being a guy, car analogies don't phase me a bit.  Especially with someone that doesn't understand that torque is just as important as horsepower to real world performance and peak HP and torque is deeply interrelated to displacement.  That 3.0L engine that revs very high to get astronomical HP is great for a very light car but not so happy with a heavier car.  Nor is it very pleasant to drive on...
I say that as someone that has ported Java apps to Android in the past.  The business logic ports pretty easily unless you're dependent on a library that isn't available on Android.  You replace the swing bits with Android UI bits. That Google leveraged Java to capture a large programmer ecosystem is the basis of a rather contentious lawsuit.  It's moderately true.  More true than for iOS.  For iOS it's best to start with an iOS mindset and not a cross platform one.  The...
Actually he's not.  He's discussing the numbers in question for about a paragraph then wanders around the landscape using other numbers to muddy the issue. The fact that Chromebooks went from not all that interesting (essentially 0%) in 2013 to 27.2% of the education market a year later is highly relevant and not surprisingly totally ignored by DED. Everybody, including Apple, quotes IDC.  So obviously calling IDC out today and not a year ago (when the news was very...
The K1 is not designed for a phone but tablets.  A fairly beefy ones at that. And Chromebooks.  Total performance of the package tends to lead to impacts on total user experience.   Both are powerful chips that provide a good user experience.  This is not a controversial statement. The K1 performs well and has advantages in gaming with dx12 and UE4 support.  The A8X performs well and has advantages in gaming with Metal.
So you can compare clock speeds of an intel x86 Atom CPU with an Intel x86 Core CPU with an Intel x86 Celeron CPU?   Interesting. Adjusting for baseline clock speeds is no more valid for comparing the K1 with the A8 than it is for comparing "same architecture" x86 CPUs.  The designs are different and emphasize different aspects.  Mmm...I think they meant non-Apple designs.  Ie vs Snapdragon.  They are not competing for design wins vs Apple's chips.  The nVidia propaganda...
Android's parents is Java.  Moving from desktop java apps to Android isn't that hard.
Because if you take just half of that 10M number (aka 5M) and multiply by $349 that $1.75B in revenue. Calling $1.75B in annual revenue with Apple's expected gross margins a "failure" is idiocy.  That's nearly double that of the aTV which is not really a hobby anymore at $1B in annual revenue (2013). 10M unit would be a roaring success at $3.4B annual revenue and approximately $1B gross margin.  That's more than the iPod generates. I don't expect to see 10M unit sales in...
Not when the term is incorrect.  Apple calls it a SIP.  Everyone else calls it a SIP.  Including AppleInsider.  CoC is stupid, especially since SoC means the same thing: computer SYSTEM on a chip. "Apple custom-designed its own S1 SiP (System in Package) to miniaturize an entire computer architecture onto a single chip. Apple Watch also features Wi-Fi 802.11b/g and Bluetooth 4.0 to pair seamlessly with your...
CoC is not a term (okay, it is a term but it means chip on chip).  Even if it was it's not a computer on a chip anyway.  It's a SIP or System In Package.  There are multiple chips in the package that compose the S1 and the whole thing is filled with resin to make one package.   And SoC is a computer system on a chip.  Which the S1 isn't.  Because it's not one chip.
And George W. Bush went to Yale and Harvard Business School...mmm....and Obama from Harvard law... Attended top end schools, yes.  Smarter than being given credit for?  Mmmmaybe.
