Does anyone know whether these things support 4K externally?  Haswell is supposed to use the Redwood Ridge controller, which while still offering Thunderbolt at 10Gbps bidirectionally, updates the Display port to 1.2.     Thunderbolt 2 supports both 20Gbps bidirectionally AND Displayport 1.2 (4K).   Displayport 1.1a maxes out at 2560x1600   iFixit's teardown suggests that they've kept the same part as used in the ivy bridge controller, in which case no external 4K...
Hi everyone.   I have an old 15" Macbook Pro 2,2 (2.16Ghz C2D from 2006) running 10.6.8   I'm upgrading to an SSD and would like to remove the optical in favor of a 500-750GB HDD for my photo and music libraries.   So far, no luck.  OWC says their product won't work with macs older than 2008 vintage...   Any help would be greatly appreciated   Thanks
I only listen to music, I don't know anything aboout making it, but it looks like digital production now offers far more "fidelity" and resolution than what could be done in the analogue era. An interesting thing for me, as a consumer of your fine labours, is hat we see valves making a bit of a return to home amplification. Some claim that this is actually a good match to digital media, and especially compressed music as it fattens up the sound bit and gives vocals and...
Me want these. How they compare with modern solid state amps, I do not know, but glowing valves sure look the business, don't they? I've had a good listen to a good quality valve amp before. It did sound good. High sensitivity speakers are a must... any suggestions from the sound gurus out there, just in case one of these were to follow me home...
So when can I get a 4 core iMac? Is there a roadmap for lower power 4 core chips?
Smart's seem liberally sprinkled throughout Toronto and surrounding burbs. They seem fine on the highways too, so I don't see why they wouldn't work for long commutes actually. I do think that anyone looking at a Smart should probably look at a Yaris as well -- if the want a, quote, "real car" But the fact that the smart is much smaller than a conventional car, is what makes it so interesting a proposition for some. Very easy to park and manouver. In Canada we see...
Smart previewed a diesel electric hybrid that gets 2.9L/100KM or about 80-100MPG depending on which gallons you're using. They're both faster/quicker than the current models and more economical... I wonder if they'll come to the USA
I'm still sure that this would be a better car as a hybrid than a battery powered electric, especially if the thing has 1700lbs worth of batteries on board. That weighs more than even the baddest 1970's musclecar engines, what am I writing? It weighs more than entire drivetrains. A 660cc motorcycle type engine weighs less than 100lbs. It would be hard to build a gas engine/generator, CVT and gas tank combination that weighed more than 500, saving at least 1200lbs in...
The real problem with electric cars is that they don't make vroom vroom noises. Hybrids are the future, the only variable is fuel source. That straight electric vehicle may not be as green as you think. What do we do with voluminous quantities of spent batteries if/when the majority of vehicles are made this way? And if your vehicle's electric supply is coming of any number of America's laughable "clean coal" generating stations... No, I think what's needed is a...
I'm not really up to speed anymore on what is or isn't coming down the road for wireless. G is good enough for any home network needs. I'm more interested in metro area networks and technologies like WiMax, if/when we see it. Apple really needs to start offering a little future proofing in their I/O. None of the iMac/mini/macbook have any provision for adding a new I/O spec when required. EVERY model sold by EVERY other manufacturer manages to incorporate either a...
