Apple's new Mac Pro is being manufactured in China
Apple will not need to build the new Mac Pro in mass quantities, because they are only going to sell 102 of them. Or some small number catering to a high-end niche. Given what is happening at the political level, that decision to produce a niche high-end product off-shore appears to be ill-considered, and will very likely soon be the subject of a tariff. That should come as no surprise. -
Apple Studio Display review: How badly do you want an all-Apple experience?
" Going for the tilt- and height-adjustable version adds the ability to shift the height up and down"No - the so-called height adjustable stand ONLY allows the height to go upwards - it does not offer any settings that result in the monitor sitting lower than the fixed version. This is yet another major design flaw in the Studio Display ... along with:
* the 60Hz refresh rate,
* no HDR
* the hardwired rear cable
* the hole in the stand that is visible from the front (because they set the monitor too high)
* webcam quality problems
* monitor technology is years old
* only supports Thunderbolt 3 (when the accompanying Mac supports Thunderbolt 4)
* cannot change from Landscape to Portrait with standard stand. -
Apple's Studio Display doesn't shine in the light of competition
Great review. There are a number of design issues with the current version of the Apple Studio Display:
* it sits too high (and even the base is higher than the iMac base), which is a problem unless you are tall or work standing up.
* the so-called height adjustable stand ONLY allows the height to go upwards - it does not offer any settings that result in the monitor sitting lower than the fixed version.
* the 60Hz refresh rate,
* no HRD
* the hardwired rear cable
* the hole in the stand that is visible from the front (because they set the monitor too high)
* webcam quality problems

* cannot change from Landscape to Portrait with standard stand.

Netflix dropping Basic ads-free tier, forcing users to choose a more profitable tier
> "leaving users to choose between spending more money or more time with ads"
There is of course a third option, which is to leave Netflix and find something better to do with your time. Most of their content, imo, is very mediocre, and there have only been a couple of series that I have been interested to switch it ON or, and then OFF again when done. -
Samsung's Studio Display rival finally coming in August
The problem (amongst others) with the Apple Studio Display is that you cannot lower it in height. Even the so-called height adjustable version of Apple's monitor only goes upwards (not downwards). And it is ergonomically too high to start with (apparently raised to allow the Mac Studio to fit underneath it, leading to further ergonomic fails. The Samsung also lets you change into portrait mode which is pretty cool. Hopefully Apple's next version will fix these flaws. -
