  • iOS 10 now installed on 79% of Apple's mobile devices

    Are you kidding me???
Only because Apple annoys the F'n S#!* out of you every time you turn your device on with their relentless pop-up windows until you just capitulate out of sheer anger and frustration.

Honestly, its forced complience and a big steaming pile of bullshit. It's one of the worst policies of Apple and Tim should be tarred and feathered for this crap. Steve Jobs would never in his life allowed this kind of crap that ruins the user experience.

This article isn't anything to be proud of - its just stating how many people Apple made completely misserable before they caved.

  • Apple lowers holiday quarter guidance on lower than expected iPhone sales

The cheapest new 2018 iPhone you can get in Canada right now is $1228 with AppleCare ($1375 after tax).
$1375... for the bottom of the barrel 2018 phone. The cheapest possible phone you can get is a 7 for $1100.

The iPhone most people would like to have is the Xs 256 - which costs $2058 with AppleCare after tax.

    Nice phones? Sure.
    $2058 nice? lol

Throw in a case and your average data plan cost and you are looking at a 2 year $4500 investment.

$4500 for the new iPhone with the newest features.

Go ahead and try to defend that.
Business's can't justify that - so forget about 20 somethings paying off student loans, paying that for dancing poo emoji's and Instagram scrolling.
And before you attempt to point to other offerings - nobody wants to pay $1100 for a near obsolete 3 year old iPhone 7.

    It's beyond absurd.

  • The 2019 Mac Pro will be what Apple wants it to be, and it won't, and shouldn't, make ever...

    Hey Mike,
I totally disagree with your analysis of the number of people upgrading RAM. I know for a fact that number is much much higher.

Apple charges 3x the price for RAM upgrades. Your numbers make sense when you look at the data Apple has - which shows people are smart enough to not order ram from Apple.
I think a better way to determine the true number is to ask a company like OWC how business is? Determine their market share, extrapolate sales / new machines sold etc...

I've upgraded the RAM on my own for every Mac I've ever owned (40-50 computers).
On top of that, I've upgraded all of my friends Mac's with ram (100+ computers).
On top of that, I upgrade all of my clients computers with RAM or direct them to OWC (300+ computers).

Thats about 450 computers with upgraded RAM that Apple, or anyone else, has zero data on... and I'm just 1 guy.
I have many peers who do the same for their friends and clients.
I could easily estimate over 3000+ computers.

I would argue the type of people answering your poll here are 'unlikely' to be upgraders.
If you ran the same poll on Barefeats - it would probably be close to 100% upgrade their RAM on their own.

  • The Mac gaming landscape remains dire, with no improvements in sight

20+ years ago at my old design house, we used wrap up early Fridays, grab some beer, and LAN game into the night... Warcraft and Marathon etc. (Original beige G3’s).
It cemented our love for the Mac platform, being able to do something other than Adobe, Corel, and ClarisWorks.
We took pride in our machines, maintaining them, upgrading them, loving them, they were an extension of our identity.
Now that magic is mostly gone. They are soulless tools for work. The 4th wife - you still love them, but meh. Mostly Utility.

What some here don’t understand (iPhone investors generation) is that gaming was part of the magic and mojo that kept people passionate about the Mac, and inevitably kept the company alive. It’s largely that same group screaming for true pro Macs - that we can get attached to, give some upgrade love to - instead of the one-night-stand iMacs we got now.

  • Surviving the most technologically advanced trade show solely on USB-C was a nightmare

Coming soon: The completely portless MacBook Pro.
MacBook battery run out of charge? No problem, the Apple trade-in program will refund you 5% of your previous days MacBook. Or visit an Apple Store daily for a battery replacement for only $599.
Ives: "The completely portless, un-chargable MacBook Pro has let us make it 1mm thinner - revolutionizing the personal computing experience..."
Average Appleinsider commenter: "People who charge their MacBooks daily are a niche market..."

If you’re a Fortune 100 company... it’s going to be great!
Quality tools are expensive. Do you need a tool this powerful? If so, great, here it is, you can do your job and produce value with it. If not, it's not for you, and that's fine. The iMac Pro, iMac, and Mini are great options for desktops.
Uhhhh... yah. They designed a Mac Pro for Pixar and maybe 5 other massive design houses. What about the other 98% of content creators?
Where is the Mac for the small business that makes up 98% of the market? The freelancers who need a solid machine that they can upgrade over 7 years. iMac isn’t it.

This is looks like a fantastic machine - but it misses the mark for what the average pro user has been asking for.

  • Rumor claims 2019 iPhone will get 10MP TrueDepth camera, stick to Lightning

Plenty lightening cables around so it's all good if 2019 iPhone stays with Lightening port. But in future if Apple going to move iPhone to USB-C than sooner is better. I don't see another physical port standard on horizon unless everyone move to Wirless for charging and Data/music transfer.
I don't see any reason ever to move the iPhone to USB-C. Wireless charging is the next standard Apple will likely move to, and drop the exposed port concept from their phones entirely. They've steadily been moving to seal it up completely. For the optional need to make a physical connection for a very small portion of Apple's iPhone base, something like the SmartConnector is likely the way to go. For most customers, wireless will suffice to meet all of their needs, and encourage use of Apple's Cloud services -- which after all is a stated goal of their transition away from hardware focused profits.
Wireless phones and self doing cars ain’t gonna happen Tim needs to blow out the competition with some battery breakthroughs then we’ll cut that wire for good not before
They have them... at least Panasonic does. Enzyme batteries.
Problem is they will never use it as it would negate the need to upgrade devices.
Apple and tech in general aren't in the market of 1 and done. They want to sell you the same thing over and over...

  • Apple in 2019: Will a recession ruin its run?

I just want more product category disruptions. Obviously I don't want products for no reason but I would love to see Apple shake up some product categories. I'm disappointed with the HomePod. It's barely a foot in the water and completely ignored home theatre enthusiasts.
    HomePod... home theatre enthusiasts?

  • Apple extends MacBook Pro keyboard service program to 2018 models

I’ve seriously been offered more for my mint 2015 than a new MBP... with all it’s glorious connections, inputs, MagSafe, fixability, reliability...
The last true MBP before Ives and Tim steered the brand into the ditch.

Apple should just re-release the 2015 with some updated internals. Same with the 2010 Mac Pro.

  • Apple debuts new $5999 Mac Pro with up to 28-core Xeon processors

This Mac Pro is a Formula 1 car. Designed for 1 purpose. What the usual cultists here don’t understand is that most of the market want a vehicle that can go on the Hwy, run on regular fuel, and have winter tires put on. Doesn’t mean we aren’t professionals just because we aren’t Formula 1 drivers.
