  • Apple, ad agency sued over voice sample used in iPhone 6 TV commercial

"$10 million" is crap. There is no way in hell his endorsement or that song (or album) would ever make that much. I would like to know how well the song sold since 1971 -- I would be willing to bet it didn't make that much in the 40+ yrs of its release. Apple should have gotten permission though -- probably wouldn't have cost more than $50 and a Colt 45 or MD20/20.

  • Apple Watch sales set new 'record' during holidays, but no numbers revealed

...the company is still refusing to break out specific figures.

So !? Hardly anyone gives the details of the number of units for desktop, laptop, tablets, phones... yet Apple does. But when they feel like they should play it close to the vest they are hiding something. The freaking analysts are gonna make up some number and plug it in to the crap reports they generate that causes the stock to see/saw up/down. Of course they always attribute it to some well placed source.

  • Trump using new iPhone to tweet despite prior calls for Apple boycott

President Donald Trump is the proud owner of a new iPhone. America's commander-in-chief is now confirmed to be tweeting from a device he called on supporters to boycott during last year's campaign, citing the tech giant's refusal to cooperate with authorities investigating the San Bernardino shootings.

..."[Trump] has been using his new iPhone [smartphone emoji] for the past couple of weeks here on Twitter. Yes, it is #POTUS45 reading & tweeting!" he writes...

Trump's use of Apple products, namely iPhone, is well documented.... ...That ended ...when Trump addressed...the San Bernardino terror attack.

"First of all Apple should give the security for that phone, okay?" Trump said... "...boycott Apple until such time as they give that security number.... ..I just thought of that."

...FBI agents recovered an iPhone 5c used by suspect Syed Rizwan Farook. A federal judge later ordered Apple to assist in bypassing the phone's passcode lock..."

The Department of Justice purchased a working bypass from a third-party and withdrew its case against Apple... ...the legal battle's outcome would have had implications on the public's right to digital privacy....

...the new hardware [Apple iPhone] is a welcome upgrade over Trump's old device, which was thought to be a Samsung Galaxy S3 [2012], the aging smartphone is no longer capable of running Google's latest Android software, meaning it poses a security threat to end users.

Concerns regarding Trump's smartphone predilections reached Congress in February when two Democratic senators on the Homeland Security Committee asked Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis whether the president was using a potentially unsecured device. Today that question was answered...
I think this is simply a case of Trump acclimating to a group of so-called-experts [FBI, NSA, CIA, Homeland] that needed to respond and make it known what was the most secure, what preserved Americans rights under the Constitution/B of R, etc... As with the FBI they did not have anyone that was comfortable to make such a decision so they hired and/or bought a set of unsupported tools to hack the iPhone. I would think that Samsundg have the damn things spontaneously errupting in to a VERY hot ball of fire was good enough to toss the Samsung, but was the FBI even concerned -- NOT!

Trump has a lot more resources to point him in the right direction, and has taken advantage of it on occasion.

  • Apple sells up to 180,000 Apple Vision Pro, says Kuo

Again based on his unspecified inventory calculations, Kuo points out that with a "user base of over 1.2 billion active users... as long as about 0.007% of users are willing to buy... Vision Pro can sell out after opening for pre-order."

1.2B active users in the US........?
I question this - 1.2B active users of what? Not the VP cause none shipped yet…

Apple would never piss money away on a Superbowl ad for anything.

They could release it as a superbowl ad to the internet, millions will watch it on youtube, then never show it during the superbowl or pay the fee and they'd get just as many eyeballs on it.
So am I to assume you think Steve just decided to “piss money away” on the Mac Superbowl ad? I’m sorry but I must disagree w/u. I worked @ Apple shortly after this and got a copy of that ad on VHS & when friends et al find out i have its always “can we watch it?” That’s an ad that just keeps on giving - most I think would agree that it’s money well spent!

  • The next Apple CEO: Who could succeed Tim Cook?

I also believe Federighi could be the best move considering his possible longevity & his time with the company. He also has had some negative reaction in the media at times — some of it unfair and uneducated; that may leave a bad taste in the board/stockholders mouths. I guess we will have to see.

No matter who the board picks it would be wise for Cook to bring up and make them look more like CEO material or did not have familiarity with the product line. Look what happened to the guys that were outsiders (eg, Scully:soda pop, Amilio:semiconductors). They had no credibility and the Mac was still trying to grow with no clear path (ie, the idea that it had to be a business machine but without support from software to make it a.viable business machine).

It is anybody’s guess at this point, that’s my guess, shad’s yours?

  • Apple gets backlash from India after uncovering hacks on journalists

Any pots calling kettle black lately?  Seems as plausible as a ‘stove fire’ divorce/dissolution of  marriage. No shame with new wife waiting in the wings.

Seems quite unlikely that Apple would report a hack that was initiated by themselves!

Maybe Modi is really looking for a window to be installed in his stomach to see where he is going?!

Dumb and stupid by Sunbird and Nothing, yes. Dumber and more stupid is anyone who gives their credentials to a third party app or web site. Think Venmo and any other app/site that throws up a request to log in, regardless of how legitimate the page looks. That page is usually running within the context of the app/site so who can ever know what’s being done with your credentials? If it’s not a native browser secure session directly to the service, just say no.
I could not agree more - I grew up as an adult hearing the “Just Say No” aimed @ all of us living in a world where everyone was self medicating. All the humor on the late nights was about how funny it was to get Quazy and trip over your privates. I think applying the “Just Say No” line to this makes so much sense.

  • Apple Watch import ban stay opposed by ITC

Why does it seem that the ITC is a party to this case?

They should have no business before the federal court, making arguments to the Court. The federal court can read and consider the ITC's decision, but only Masimo and Apple are parties.

    What am I missing?
A quick google search will reveal what you're missing:

As a quasi-judicial entity, the USITC investigates the impact of imports on U.S. industries, and directs actions against unfair trade practices, such as subsidies; dumping; and intellectual property infringement, including copyright infringement.

The ITC is not any kind of judicial entity (quasi or otherwise); it is not like your (hypothetical) local cops coming to search you/your home without a warrant & the taking the entire family to jail & sentencing each of you to an arbitrary amount of time (I.e., open ended).

The cops never have the power to do anything close to this (not even here in the Eastern District of Texas Fed Court).

The ITC is not the equivalent of the SS in the 3rd Riech, IMHO.

  • Apple Music marketing exec Bozoma Saint John talks diversity in new interview

Good! Bring it on, Apple - we need more people like her and Tim!
from the article:"The message echoes an Apple initiative to celebrate diversity among its employees by creating an all-inclusive workplace. According to a recent EEO-1 filing, the company has a long way to go for its upper echelons reach an equilibrium between white males and underrepresented minorities —at least by government measures —but progress is being made." If race doesn't matter then why do we (the govt.) track it so much? Why do we need to have more women and minorities in the upper echelons? I think it serves everyone better if they hire/promote the best, talented, & stop reverse discrimination. Plenty of folx have not gotten the wonderful education, health care, etc... that others have. I find that those that can look past ethnicity, orientation, etc, work hard and share their talents with others are most often rewarded for the hard work - you have the right to compete and have equality but as far as I know there isn't any promise of being 'fair'. Those that believe in the fantasy of fairness just don't get it - there is always gonna be a bias. "If its not one thing its another." - Rosannaroseannadanna
