Can Samsung appeal this decision or is it final? It’s about time Apple got a jury that understood things.
I suppose they could appeal all the way up to the Supreme Court, but it would never get a hearing.
It is my understanding this case was remanded on appeal to the federal district court for Northern California for determination of damages. An appeal from this would go to the Federal Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit. No one has a right to appeal to the SCOTUS. A petition can be submitted (for a writ), but the Supremes take 60-70 cases a year at their discretion.
An appeal would be heard by the Federal Circuit, not the Ninth Circuit, because of the subject matter involved - i.e., it's a patent case.
Don't think so. It doesn't involve the validity of the patent - just the damages.

Edit: looks to be 28USCs1295: https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/28/1295

  • Apple promises 'scary fast' Mac announcement the night of October 30

I'm all for choices and options. I am sure these new "scary fast" macs will be important to many people. And at some point in the future, I know I will benefit from them as I replace my gear. But...I have abandoned the iMac line, after using many many iterations of it, in favor of a third party 4k display and mac mini that serves my present needs. I am not a "pro" user and what I'd really like is a reliable, easy to use home desktop computer for simple, everyday tasks.

Apple does not make devices that appeal to low cost consumers. If you want a simple desktop computer, the mac is not for you. I do like the interoperability between the varied devices, so one intriguing possibility is that Apple does make a more versatile and affordable monitor "system" that can display, on a desktop, content from any source - iPhone, iPad, legacy devices like a mac mini, or...straight from internet sources, and just skip any local processing or storage.

    YMMV.

  • Beyond the new 'iPhone Xs,' what to expect from Apple's Sept. 12 'Gather round' special ev...

A phone company announces its annual event for its latest phones. It also announces it will no longer make computers as they are a sideline business, and takes up too much time, few sales, and have lost interest in making the best computers. Making phones is easier and more profitable. The software division that made iWork, Final Cut, Aperature, Mac Server etc will also be disbanded, as they haven't done anything in years anyway. No one will miss them. No professional laptops (15" are just toys), no pro desktop Mac worth buying since 2013, no 17" laptop since 2012, no new Mac Mini, since ...I forgot it was so long ago. Old computers with old processors, old graphics cards, no user upgradable RAM, tiny RAM limit of 32Gb, same old high prices. Apple should give 5 year warranties. After 25 years as a Mac user, I am considering those PeeCees sadly. Cheaper, faster, 17" laptops, powerful desktop models.

  • Giant 30-inch iMac, iPhone 15, OLED iPads: Apple's roadmap for 2023-2024

Will believe big iMac when I see it. Lucy has pulled the ball away one too many times.
After a few years of indecision about this, I have moved off the iMac line permanently. I've had many different versions (and one that was a complete lemon that Apple never should have shipped), but I settled on a M1 mac mini driving a 27" third party 4K display. It suits for a fine desktop...and oddly enough, I'm moving off the need for a desktop. It replaces a late 2009 27" iMac.

My computing needs are very modest, so there's little here for me to really consider. All sound like fine products...they just aren't for me. Truth of it is that Apple products hold up so well, they really don't need constant replacing.

The exception to all this is the iPhone 15. I'll be a launch day customer, as I have in fact worn out my iPhone Xr.

Very up in the air about update of my Apple Watch 4. It takes a licking and keeps on ticking. I still easily get a full day out of a full charge, so maybe wait.

Confirmed. 14.4 got my Dell and my Canon. Right in the middle of US tax season. Nice.

Idea: can you ask Apple to ship you one, and promise you'll pay for it "later this year" when the promised features appear?

There is no chance I will ever use the ID app to voluntarily hand my iPhone to a law enforcement officer.

Then again, a significant percentage of people have, over the past few years, already switched to wireless MagSafe charging and the Lightning to USB change will be of little consequence.
But for CarPlay. Yes, wireless CarPlay exists, but in far fewer vehicles. And...it isn't simple to handle in a car shared by multiple drivers with their own iPhone.
