I only have the factory 80gig hd and 512mg of RAM and it's a pig. I feel like I am using my old G3 iMac with 256mg of RAM. I am only using Entourage and Safari right now and even that is horribly slow.

Don't buy a MacBook. They are horribly defective and Apple is covering up a huge Logic Board failure issue. Why else would it take 2 weeks or more to fix a laptop that they promised in 5 to 7 days?
