  • Apple sued over FaceTime, auto-expiring voice Messages technology

Unsurprisingly, the gov entertains the existence of these false entities wasting time and energy in a pay to play judicial system. How about restricting patent trolling to only those entities (and respective subsidiaries) that actually have a successful product which they can whine about?
Then, if a person wants to come up with an idea, he wont be able to get it patented due to a rule you have just proposed, and assumg he had no money for setting up the production.
You can’t patent “ideas”. An invention may start with an idea but needs to be described sufficiently that someone skilled in computer science could implement it. It’s also supposed to be novel - but that seems sadly lacking most of the time. However, evn616 was talking about patent enforcement not acquisition and the idea has a lot of merit and has been widely debated.
lol. You clearly can judging by the text of some very vague patents. Sending voice over internet is an idea. It is NOT an implementation. Using A compression is an idea. Using a server to send voice data over IS an idea. None of those words would make a workable system that you could use if you read one of those patents.

  • Apple considering offline mode for Siri that could process voice locally on an iPhone

So, if you think Siri is stupid now, just wait.

Try asking Siri a very basic question, like "How old am I", or "When will I be 59 1/2 years old".  Siri will suggest websites; which is asinine.  Siri knows my birthday, anniversary, the birthday of my kids, friends and neighbors (as long as I have the information in my contacts); but is unable to use that date, and a calendar to answer very basic questions.  Voice recognition on Siri has improved - but Siri's ability to do anything useful with that information is almost 5 years behind both Google, and Amazon - which is pathetic - since Apple practically invented a useful Virtual Assistant.

Now, between Cortana, Echo and Google Echo - Siri is pretty much a dead last competitor; when it should be the BEST - by far.
Did it occure to you why Cortana or Echo are better at answring thosr questions? Well, that is becasue those assistants do have access to that information, because engineers made them like that. Apple, I guess, is trying to protect private info a little better.

  • The new Mac mini is a great machine, but a $499 model could serve a larger audience

but a $499 model could serve a larger audience
And a $199 model could serve even greater audience.
Don't get me even started on a $99 model...

It's acts like these kids do that get both healthcare and welfare check cuts.. perhaps better education and institutions and programs to keep kids out of the streets? Thought that was the whole idea former Gov. Arnold was promoting? Perhaps, look at the French Canadian cities on solutions for some ideas on this double sided issue. Or even in Melbourne or Sydney Australia when it comes to family dire situations and handling them in these crisis. I think someone on the inside of apple is doing this. NOT an issue of just a ring leader to produce benefit losses. A phat federal check to pay apple on a employee apple solutions survey would be more appealing if it was taken to the admin below the Apple Inc. CEO area. Something a bit beyond intel can do. What do you guys think?
The idea is to have whole families with fathers that are present (physically) and as role figures. Statistics show that that alone fixes a lot of problems. Single mother households, on the other hand, produce people like these fine gentlemen - in 80% of the single mother households! Think about that. Getting kids off the streets does not work, if the only pattern they learnt was - living off of the street crime.
