  • Apple has two big CarPlay problems

    This is a rant article.

First, let’s acknowledge that car manufacturers come out with ‘new’ models ever 3-4 years, so the soonest a new feature, ala wireless, would be available would be with the next new model upgrade.  Car manufacturers aren’t going to change up components mid cycle unless there is a payback.

Let’s also acknowledge that we are running CarPlay 2 currently(ios13), this is the second major release Apple has done in addition to the incrementals each iOS cycle.

What’s true is that CarPlay isn’t perfect, it has quirks, but are those on the car manufacturers interface implementation or Apple?

Wireless CarPlay is in entry level cars, the base LS model Chevy Trailblazer, has an awesome implementation, and they do not even offer a Nav system in that car, so I think that answers the car manufacturer question.

Because the system isn’t perfect the question has to be asked, is it manufacturer implementation as mentioned before, is it a specific app, like the rant article mentions SiriusXM, or is it inherent in the current CarPlay?

If it’s the App, complain to the App developer, duh.

BTW, the ‘go-live’ button in the XM app has worked fine for me.  Maybe article writers should do more research for their articles, unless they are publishing just to get forum hits?

Just my 2 cents, worth less every day…

  • Eufy not patching cameras, instead just warning users about cloud use

    OMG

    People need to grow up.

So a Thumbnail, and text regarding the thumbnail to support a notification that the user had to request to receive, but the app didn’t tell them it was being sent on the net, even though that’s the only way they could get it?  That’s the main issue?

Connecting with vlc on a local network is a security hole, you still need to connect to the local network in order to connect to the cameras, then you too can see when the Amazon driver drops off your packages. Needs to be fixed, but Apple and others have had worse.

Nice to know, but click bait

  • Don't update to iOS 13 just yet -- wait for iOS 13.1

So what are all the iPhone 11 users supposed to do? Not use their brand new phones until Sept 30th? While people should be cautious with any major upgrade, Apple software (with the exception of a couple of releases in history) are surprisingly stable. I upgraded as soon as it was released, I have had no issues in the day since it's been out. My only real complaint is that Apple has gotten lazy, and the macOS, tvOS, and iPadOS were not released at the same time. Having different devices with different capabilities and commands can be a pain. Ecosystem temporarily broken.

  • GE debuts HomeKit-enabled C by GE smart lights, wall switches, wall plug

I like the Lutron Caseta line of switches, still needs a hub for HomeKit but just plug in to an open port on the router. Actually might be a benefit since the traffic isn't clogging your normal WiFi. Based on the picture in the article, you don't need lights in your house anymore, the round circle looks like it will glow bright enough to illuminate at night. These companies need to just make a switch, plain old everyday switch. Well the standard Toggle/Paddle switch form-factor/looks would be fine. No need for glowing blues, greens, and purples except when setting them up. I personally like the flat switch paddle looks. Tight to the wall, clean.

  • Editorial: More companies need to temper their Artificial Intelligence with authentic ethi...

    I like this editorial piece.

Since Apple is so secretive, the 'media'/'analysts'/'bloggers'/et el seem to make up their own narrative as to why functions don't exist, don't work as well as competing products, or just don't. (most of which just before announcements that seem to manipulate the stock price)

We already know that Apple seems to take privacy more seriously than pretty much every other tech company, as evidenced by the inability, or unwillingness, to unlock, crack, or add back-doors to their products for 'law enforcement'.

There is further evidence that Apple does consider these things, in the delay of HomeKit certifications and the late requirements to require certain security chip usage so as not to diminish overall security, even making rare comments about the third parties lacking.

All this stated, I do agree with both the opinion article and other comments, Apple has given up a substantial lead with Siri, when they maybe could have maintained privacy and be offering more, if not the same, as competitors.

I also think that other comments are 110% correct, Apple is held to a much higher standard than everyone else when if Apple would have pulled a Facebook/Google with user data, or Siri would have sent a private conversation to anyone else, the Media and Public backlash would be never ending front page news and the stock would be in the toilet.
