Apple supplier TSMC evacuates as earthquake hits Taiwan
apple4thewin said:blastdoor said:Companies should build fabs and data centers in the central plains of the US, where wind and solar resources are abundant and earthquakes are very rare. Western Kansas in particular has a great mix of wind and sun. Just be sure to build partially underground for tornado protection.
It's somewhat under appreciated, I think, that Kansas has pretty good solar potential in addition to the fantastic wind potential.

Kansas falls between Florida and Utah in terms of solar potential, which might not be obvious to folks who aren't familiar with that part of the country. Of course, Texas also has great potential for both wind and solar.
Combining the two is nice because the power supply is a bit less variable that way -

Apple employees urge management to act on Gaza conflict
tobian said:DavidEsrati said:Interesting. No worries about the fighting in Ukraine?
Or any other conflicts around the world?
Perhaps this is because of a different pace. At the end of the year, death toll in Ukraine was around 9.700 people after these years, while in Gaza it's over 30.000 since October. Civilians x soldiers ratio also differs. Hard to judge...

A quarter of Apple's revenue will come from Services by 2025
Hmm. I pay for Apple one but I don’t love it the way I love Apple devices. More specifically:
TV+ —- love it, watch a lot
arcade — hate it, don’t use
music — it’s fine
iCloud — if’s fine
News — it’s fine
whatever else — fine.
If they could move Arcade and News into the “love it” category— and I think that should be feasible if they’d try — then Apple One would be in the same league as Apple devices. But I’m not holding my breath -
Computing would be totally different had Apple not been formed 48 years ago, today
