Sources confirm new Apple products next week

Apple Computer is quietly preparing to launch new products next week as it prepares for a major presence at the Apple Expo Paris.

AppleInsider has confirmed through multiple reliable sources that Apple is preparing to unveil new products early next week. The introductions are expected to begin appearing on the company's website as early as Monday evening.

While sources did not provide specifics of the announcements, it's widely expected that Apple will finally introduce its all-new G5 iMac, which has been delayed since late June.

Sources close to the computer maker told AppleInsider last week that the new iMac was complete and awaiting introduction. In addition to previously published descriptions of the new all-in-one desktop, tipsters added that the iMac G5 would sport an aluminum and chrome motif; a scheme consistent with the majority of the company's current hardware offerings.

Apple will reportedly incur significant air-freight charges to fly the new iMacs from manufacturing plants in Asia over to Europe and the United States, in an attempt to flood its retail channels.

So far, there has been no indication of when Apple will begin shipping the iMacs, though sources expect demand to greatly exceed the initial supply of units due to ongoing production issues associated with IBM's PowerPC 970 fx G5 processor. Customers who have their hearts set on an iMac G5 are urged to place orders as soon as the company allows them to do so.

Recent information has also suggested that Apple may be planning to introduce additional products during the Paris expo, but has reportedly engrossed itself and its Europe division in secrecy. Many employees scheduled to be on hand for the expo admittedly remain in the dark this week as to the company's official plans.

Apple made an unorthodox announcement of the new iMac in June and later confirmed that the computer would be based on a G5 processor from IBM. Official statements from the company have indicated that the new models should begin shipping in September.

Let's hope they finally get an aluminum style keyboard.

I recently got a white one with my G5 and me no like. Doesn't match the G5 at all... plus you can't lay it flat like the old black ones.

I received one with my refurb 1.6, too. I just kept the plastic wrap around it... but the top of the keyboard is likely to get cruddy.

I have a black one here in the office and you can see spilt tea in it.. Still works after about 4 years or so.

It matches if you get a Cinema Display which has white inlays on the side.

Hmmm So does this mean "just" the iMac or is there another product coming? Interesting. I'll be happy to see a nice svelte new iMac G5 looking good. Aluminum is good. Time to get away from the white plastic that looks dirty months later.

"The iMac will sport a aluminum/chrome motif"...consistent with my source, and reported by me in a thread over a month ago.

This is from AppleInsider's current report:

I also expect to see a new iSight camera and something that makes use of the 60 GB micro drives that Apple has been buying up.

Please anything but new iPod info.... I want this to be an iPod-less event. I am sick of Apple slowly becoming the Apple IPod, instead of Apple Computers.

iDunno.

PS. Hooray for new iMac's, and Hooray for new iSights.

Well, it hasn't been Apple Computer, officially, for a couple of years at least... check the ending paragraph on all their PR blurbs:

Quote:
Apple ignited the personal computer revolution in the 1970s with the Apple II and reinvented the personal computer in the 1980s with the Macintosh. Apple is widely recognized for its innovative and award-winning Mac desktop and notebook computers, OS X operating system, and iLife digital lifestyle and professional applications. Apple is also leading the digital music revolution with its market-leading iPod line of portable music players and iTunes online music store.
'Apple' not 'Apple Computer'. It used to be the latter. Not any more.

Just plain Apple (especially with a Music store, iPods, and deals with labels) is going to get that Beatles record company's lawyers all uppity again.

IIRC, past legal actions have led to agreements/settlements which say they can informally shorten the name to just Apple in some marketing, but the formal corporate name can't infringe.

Somebody may have linkage with clarification, but I'm pretty sure Apple (Records) is part of why.

I know this isn't exactly what you want, but this keyboard is silver and has backlit keys.

AFAIK, there have been products with an aluminum motif, and products with a chrome motif, but never has there been a product with both.

Unless you count the power button.

IIRC stands for "If I recall correctly".

It was/is not certain whether or not the iMac will indeed make its debut at the Paris Expo.

Croquer (in France) is saying announcement in Paris and deliveries in October. Hopefully they are way off. They did say, however that the dual 2.5s were originally going to be 2.2s. Maybe 2.2 will be the top end for the iMac . . . One can hope with less than a week to go. After than dreams are only what is available at the Apple Store.

Been waiting since January to but the G5 iMac so my BTO order goes in on day one. Should be delivered by Christmas.

What I'm wondering about is:

Quote:

Does this mean that Apple will be announcing them, and saying that they're available that instance? Or am I reading too much into that?

45" cinema display with a res of 3000x???? Woehahahaha

No serieusly, i hope Apple wil introduce something that's not just an update from a current model. Something like a tablet or an anniversary product that is not as expensive as an BMW 5 series.

I looked at that eluminx keyboard , but it appears it's only PS/2 compatible so USB Macs can't use it.

As for the aluminum iMacs, I personally would rather Apple keep the distinction between the consumer and the professional lines. The white designs of the iBook, iMacs, iPods, Airports are consistent this way. Now if they could manage to blend the two materials in such a way like they did with the new Cinema displays, that might be a nice compromise and show a visual middle ground, a prosumer product.

You are quite right. It was in all the mags, news sites a few years back.

I thought this had been made 'official'.

It would certainly sum up the slow 'redefinition' of Apple since Jobs assumed command of the mothership.

Apple is now about more than computers.

It's the new Sony.

But loads better.

The emphasis on iPods is selling Apple laptops.

Get used to this.

I thoroughly expect other DLD devices to match:

iPod, iPod mini, iSight, Airport Express...(pay attention in class children...Apple 'computer' has been expanding from its 'Mac only' remit for some time now...)

As well as Windows software...(hell froze over...)

As well as Business hardware (hell REALLY froze over...)

As well as a supercomputer that p********* all over Opteron and Intel clusters (DA WHOLE DANTES INFERNO GOTTA A BIT OF DE FROSTBITE, CLYDE...)

Add to that a Mac OS on 'Unix'? Not to mention industry standard components and Open GL instead of the laughable Quickdraw 3D? Not to mention Apple monitors compatible with Windows machines?

What's going on?

If you'd have said that to me in 1997?

I'd have whizzed myself laughing.

No joke. This is all in 7 years? What about the next 7?

Think the unthinkable.

As for the 'alu chrome' iMac G5? Did we not know? Did we not care? Who but Galactus (Steve J) could have the power? Didst thou not see-est the G5 tower alu? THe laptop selleth a Powerbook sexy sales? Alu mini smash hit? Verily? Tis alu.

iBook and eMac...borrowed time is dirty white...more sexy is alu...look cooler it does...more professional...more seductive...quicker to sell...like the dark side...it is.

Lemon Bon Bon

PS. I can't wait to see the new iMac G5 and other goodies next week!!!

BAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY-BEEEEEEEEEEE!

We do it because Steve Jobs is the supreme defender of the Macintosh faith, someone who led Apple back from the brink of extinction just four years ago. And we do it because his annual keynote is the closest thing the computing industry has to a rock 'n' roll happening. The security and well-being of the free world will not hinge on these product announcements, but by pure showmanship, we are made to care. We are made to feel history is being made here.

Apple's notebooks have transcended the idea of Computer as Utility - even though they are indeed useful - and ascended to the plateau of Computer as Icon. And at that level, there is no competition.

If there are 3 models of the new iMac, if history is any example, two will be available "imediately" while the top end "at the end of the month" or something to that effect. Supplies will be very limited of course. I doubt there will be any other new hardware announcement however. Check out the Newsweek and Time magazine sites on Sunday!

Croquer is nothing more than MOSR in French. Perhaps more amusing than that, as they often write in a way that gives you the impression they are the absolute truth.

Predicting deliveries in October is pretty safe, given the production problems IBM still faces. No need Croquer to tell us that.

And their explanation of the water cooling system in the new Power Macs simply does not make sense, supporting my hypothesis that they don't know what they say.

Well they finally have room for a 60gb iPod in the line. http://macmice.com/themouseal.html is a apple mouse with 2 buttons and a scroll wheel that is alluminum. Also if they actually did release an iPod with wifi I bet it would be generation 5. It would be it's own airport express and be able to access the iTMS and sync wirelessly, which would work very well if the iPod had airport extreme in it.

At Paris I would expect to see the Apple "iDJPod Lucky Boy": A double iPod with two scroll wheels, two 60G drives and Airport Express so that you can DJ from the Bar area. Nah..just kidding.

Or am I?

...or not

Whatever happens to the distinction of aluminum = pro, white = consumer? First, iPod mini "violated" the rule, now iMac (if true). Will it come in an anodized aluminum case just like iPod mini?

If the new iMac case is aluminum, then the "chameleon" case patent is not for iMacs. Hmmm.. interesting.
