Apple music event set for Sept 7
Apple Computer plans to host a special event on September 7th to introduce new music-related products, AppleInsider has learned.
On Monday the iPod maker began distributing e-mail invites to the event, which will take place at 10:00am on Sept. 7th at San Francisco's Moscone Center. "1000 songs in your pocket changed everything. Here we go again," the invite reads, in part. The slogan "1000 songs in your pocket" was originally used by the Apple when it introduced the the very first 5GB iPod digital music player in 2001. Sources had previously reported that Motorola and Apple would use the 7th of September to unveil the first of Motorola's iTunes ROKR cell phones. The phones will be the first product of Motorola's strategic partnership with Apple, aimed at enabling music fans to transfer their favorite songs from Apple's iTunes jukebox software to compatible Motorola mobile handsets. It was previously reported that Motorola was also looking into the rental of a studio venue in Manhattan to hold an east coast launch party for the phones. Apple, as it has done historically, does not mention in the event invites which products it plans to announce. |

Yeah, I did.
>>"1000 songs in your pocket changed everything. Here we go again," the invites reads, in part.<< AppleInsider is assuming it is music/phone related. >>Apple, as it has done historically, does not mention in the event invites which products it plans to announce.<< I am just adding some irresponsible speculation. That is still allowed, right? |

As I understand it, all Mac rumor sites are hereforth refraining from hyperbole. I'll put in a good word for you, but you may lose access to the site and have your Mac taken away from you if you're not careful.

IF it is the long awaited iPhone (and I hope it is), I just wonder what cellular carrier is going to carry them.

assuming it is about the motorola iTunes phone, one would think that with a statement like "1000 songs in your pocket changed everything. Here we go again" , that the phone will hold 1000 songs (approx 4GB), and since this IS a phone, one would think it's gonna be flash, maybe this is where all the flash supply is for? except then why is apple buying it and not motarola...

I sure hope the ROKR is a footnote and not the main attraction

I never get tired of being right all the time... but I do get tired of having to prove it to you again and again.

I'm expecting a major refresh for the 5th generation iPod. It hasn't really changed much since it was introduced.

Isn't the Beatles catalog in Jacko's sequined hands now? It was my understanding that Apple Corp sold the rights to it years ago.
That being said, I've actually rather been waiting for Apple to buy Apple Corps and the Beatles catalog just to put it all behind them.
My brain is hung like a HORSE!

Whilst the "changed everything" quote makes me think it might be something exciting - its just going to be the moto/itunes phone. But.....
1) iPod Home - 250GB disk made in partnership with BOSE 2) Apple as a cell network with iTunes subscription as part of the monthy line rental. 3) 5th Gen iPods with some cool feature that no-one has thought of.... I reserve my right to speculate wildly and hope for the best! |

It doesn't matter really. It's most likely going to be a GSM phone. Meaning you can buy it outright to use on cingular, tmobile, and many european carriers as well.
Just not verizon, sprint unless they release a CDMA version of the phone. Quote:

It's probably incredibly safe to say that it's either the Moto iTunes phone or the iPod video. If we use the old problem-solving technique "the simplest answer is the most probable outcome," it's going to be the iTunes phone. If we use the more speculative approach and --
Oh hell, it's going to be the phone, people!
AppleInsider's "journalists" are anything but.

Here's my guess:
iTunes 5 (at last!), iTunes phone (finally), color iPod minis, and ability to play music videos on all (new?) color iPods. No special "video iPod" ... unless they do something really bold and strange, like releasing a small tablet under the iPod name. I'm looking forward to iTunes 5 more than anything else. It's been a while. |

Smehow, I don't think this is the phone. Isn't Moto's Ed "ZNDR" going to be in NY that day anyway? (There was earlier speculation that he would release it at an event there.) Plus, to me this "iPhone" is in no way the announcement that the iPod was. To make a few hundred songs on a phone sound equatible to the digital music revolution that was/is the iPod seems laughable. Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but I think this is going to be big.

But with this new event what does old Steve have left to talk about on the 21st? Speedbumped PB?? HAHA |

I would be SHOCKED if Steve showed off the ROKR for the first time, this is mostly a MOTO thing, I think...
PLUS the ROKR just doesn't seem to be anything special, certainly not to be compared with the original iPod... |
