High-quality images of Apple's first orange iPod (shuffle)

Apple on Tuesday graced its affordable line of iPod shuffle digital music players with a fresh array of hues, including orange -- a first for the iPod family.

The Cupertino-based company also broke the shuffle's gender barrier, delivering a pink model as well as additional unisex offerings in vibrant blue and green. Each retail for just $79.

Although the new lineup of second-generation shuffles offer no enhancements over the monotone silver model introduced last fall, there is one morsel nestled with each new unit: updated earbud headphones.

That's right. Apple has seemingly run through its stockpile of first-generation iPod earbuds and is now more than happy to include an updated pair with each shuffle, as it does every other iPod model.

Customers who want to make sure they receive the updated earbuds when purchasing a grey shuffle should be sure to grab models whose packing sports black lettering (as seen below) as opposed to the green lettering used on packaging for the grey shuffle introduced last fall.

So why orange instead of black or red? "It’s just gorgeous," Greg Joswiak, Apple's Vice President of iPod Product Marketing, told iLounge. "It’s just something that’s going to look nice in fashion scenarios.”

Not the first orange iPod

The first generation of iPod mini's (the ones without the colored scroll wheel) included an orange iPod mini. This isnt the first.

As mentioned earlier, the mini was gold - not orange.

finally

I was irritated that the 2nd Gen shuffles got shafted with the headphone update, but I'm in now. Funny that it's not the colours that got me, but a much-appreciated upgrade. Now I can take my music where I don't want my 30gig video to go.

Since the shuttle has a metal casing, Apple should offer to do etchings on the front or back. A Hello Kitty on the pink one would be purr..fect for my daughter.

Hey some people would argue that pink is now unisex, I wore a pink shirt yesterday!
And let me tell you, the oppsite gender liked it!

But seriously the orange is mad nice, once there's an ipod video update (ie: larger screen) I'll sell or give away my 1gen nano and get that and this orange shuffle.

Yeah, but where are the pictures that reveal the atomic structure of the case?

All those wide-angle shots aren't doing me any good.

I tried to disassemble a Mini a couple years ago -- I was going to have the cases anodized burnt orange and sell them to UT fans, but got stimied by the click wheel. These'll be popular in Austin, I predict.

does appleinsider have a professional photographer with a 1000 dollar digital camera that goes and grabs new apple products the second they come out and take these photos? All the high res photos on applesinsider from just released apple products have the same style and or are taken by the same person it seems.

As for the Grillz comment -- now _that_ was funny.

Anyway, I was holding out for the successor to the Nano for my next iPod purchase, but I'm so tempted by orange.

Color Envy

I bet that GMC and Ford are extremely jealous of Apple.....they increase their margins by 10% just by giving their products a paint job. I think that they need to bring in Jobs to save the auto industry too.

I hope the shuffle is more durable than the radio remote. The remote's clip is flaky.

It was Gold, not orange. Gold was dropped for the 2G

He used a macro lens. A macro lens will fit on any SLR camera, and allow you to take insanely close pictures.
This is the reason for the blurry edge. A macro must be focused precisely. Anything merely milimeters further, will be blurry. I am not sure if you can diminish those blurry edges, by opening up the F stop more or not. (I think that is what I remember from my photography experience.)

Some consumer cameras do have a macro setting, so you can get closer. Canon's cameras have a little flower icon to represent Macro mode.
