Apple launches "Major in Mac" back-to-school promo
Apple Inc. on Tuesday launched its annual back-to-school promotion offering students and teachers significant discounts on new iPods (or a free iPod nano) when they purchase of a qualifying Mac system through mid-September.
Qualified education customers who purchase a new MacBook, MacBook Pro, iMac, or Mac Pro using their education discount and also purchase an iPod or iPod nano will receive up to $199 back after mail-in rebate. To be eligible for participation, individuals must buy a qualifying Mac and a qualifying iPod on the same sales receipt or invoice from June 5, 2007 through September 16, 2007. The offer is available only on purchases of new products and includes all Macintosh computers except for the Mac mini. Participants must also purchase the qualifying products from the online Apple Store for Education Individuals, a retail Apple Store, Apple Telesales, or a participating Apple Authorized Campus Store located in the United States or District of Columbia. Additional promo details are available in a set of frequently asked questions. Apple is allowing participants to process their rebate online for fastest processing. Or download and mail the rebate form. The Cupertino-based company on Tuesday also rolled-out a new line of professional MacBook Pro notebooks featuring Santa Rosa-based underpinnings and the industry's first LED backlit displays (on the 15-inch models). |

I think, though I'm not sure, that this applies to college students only. Also, this is a pretty good indicator that iPod/iPod Nano refreshes will be coming in the fall.

I would think it means that giving 200 bucks off something that's already only 500 bucks wouldn't be very cost effective.

Will the administrators stop placing these annoying DIGG IT's in their articles.
It's just as bad when some poster does it. |

I was just thinking this. Too bad too. I am in the market for both and would jump all over a 6G/LED MBP + iPod promo. Hmmmm...
The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it. Through violence you may murder the liar, but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth. Through violence you murder the hater, but you do not murder hate. In fact, violence merely increases hate.... returning violence for violence multiplies violence, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

Funny that they should call it a "back-to-school" sale when this is get-out-of-school time in the US..... (They should call it what it is: Purchase a gift for the graduate using the student discount before [s]he gets out of school!).

well, it goes well into september which is back to school time. so that is probably why they call it the back to school promo. and considering its probably geared more towards those entering college at this point instead of those graduating college

Just bought a MacBook Thursday from Apple Store. Can I return this and then buy a new Macbook and iPod to get the rebate?

what about the iPhone?
I hope Apple will extend this rebate to the iPhone too when it comes out. That would be what I really need. So the iPhone would be $200 and $300 for the 4gb and 8gb!!

I wish they would do a real promo like they did 4 yrs ago when I picked up my 12". They cut the price by the same amout this promo is for three weeks. I don't need an iPod but I could use another $200 off the education price.

So if this means new iPod Nanos....then I would imagine they will get the new 8 GB and 16 GB drives....if that's the case, might we see the iPhone with 8 GB and 16 GB as well? Would be rather silly for the iPod nano to have more memory than the iPhone....

Also, don't rush to the conclusion that Nano's will go to 8 and 16. If they go up anytime soon, it may be to 6 and 12. |

I hope I can save the money to get a new mbp and a free ipod by the end of the summer, but damn I already have so much to spend it it on. (school, getting a car, new tv, redoing my place) And I just used this friggin deal last year to get a CDMBP! Apple stuff is more addictive than crack cocaine.

This isn't an online offer only is it? I start nursing school this fall (August), and I plan on walking into an Apple store and purchasing a 15 inch MBP with the student discount in the next two weeks. I do not yet have my School ID since the Nursing program does not start for me until August, do I need to show them a school ID to get the Education Discount? That might be a problem since I don't get my ID until classes start or very soon before it. Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

Our Apple store (Orlando) requires you to show your student ID card (and your driver's license and provide school zip code). You can buy them online easier, by just clicking off on the student disclaimer type notice.
