Site of future Apple Store Munich clad in iPod (photos)

Over in Munich, Germany, Apple appears to have got the ball rolling on the nation's first official Apple retail store -- a massive four-story flagship shop due to open sometime during the second half of 2008.

As apparent from the photos below, contractors have completely razed the old structure at 1 Rosenstrasse, once home to Sport Schuster sporting goods. By this time next year, Apple hopes to fill the gap with a four-story retail outlet, adorned in an all-glass facade.

The store, which will reportedly begin operating sometime "in the second half of 2008," is said to be just one of approximately five Apple retail locations planned for Germany.

Other locations are expected in Berlin and Frankfurt.

A wireframe rendering of the Munich store was previously published, revealing a suspended white Apple logo that will greet patrons as they enter.

Okay, seriously? This is interesting and all, but you have *way* too many photos in that article, all showing the same thing. Three tops would have sufficed.

Amen. The last 75 pictures didn't really contribute any real new angles to the subject matter, he, he, he.

That flashy advertisement looks like a modern corporate parasite in the middle of those Gothic and Baroque buildings. Hopefully the store doesn't end up looking like that.

Oops sorry didn't read that...I was so distressed by the length of time it took to get to the bottom of the article...

Take a page from Apple's book (the one that says more is not necessarily better).

I dunno, I see some older buildings, but the immediate environs look to be mostly concrete 'n steel.

Judging by what's next door and across the street, an Apple store would look positively festive.

Is this the Germany store or the Jamacia store?!

You'd think they'd post some of their own citizens in the ads.

That is so not right.

Ain't it funny how countries we "liberate" promptly descend into crime and civil war-Afghanistan, Iraq, etc. ?
Countries the "violent Islamists" subjugate end up peaceful, crime-free, and self-sustaining-Somalia,Afghanistan pre-U.S.

?

Great photos, I don't get Hitler

I loved all the photos. Thanks. I don't think there should be any fewer. I thought it was like a quick glimpse of that actual street. Bravo.

What was the Hitler with an iPod supposed to be? a joke? I don't get it. He doesn't represent Germany any more, if he ever did. He was an arrogant leader bent on world domination, who dehumanized certain groups of people and sent them to concentration camps.

Let's just take a quick glance in the mirror, shall we, fellow US citizens? Who is the world's most arrogant dominator today? Who disregards the advice of the UN, and invades without being attacked? Who keeps other humans in concentration camps with no legal due process? Think about it. That's us. Hitler is us.

So I really don't get the Hitler picture with an iPod. Maybe a more up-to-date image...

Egads! Not here! Would you mind reserving your "opinion" about a subject that may possibly be more complex than you're able to comprehend in a more appropriate forum? Thank you.

(Sorry guys. It always grinds me that someone pretends not to see an obvious ploy - as if it is too far removed to understand - yet they themselves are able to leap the tallest building when mixing metaphors. The very idea that America (for all of its warts) is Hitler - indeed! Enough is enough!)

Lighten Up. If a German, or anyone else, is offended by that then they need to get a life. I'm 75% german btw. Hitler is a part of german history. Maybe you don't remember the apple ads with all the historical figures from about a decade ago. It was supposed to be a combination of that along with the new apple ads.

Next time for a more updated version I will put some german scat porn instead of hitler.

the print quality of the ads doesn't look very good... or the colors of the pictures is bad... but i think it's the banners... not a good representation for the company that printed them...

there's awesome ipod ads... i seen huge cool ads in LA on whilshire... but these suck, the colors suck...

ps: the hilter ipod ad is so tasteless... Wojciechowski must be british... they seem unable to let go of the past.... it's been 62 years since hitler committed suicide... and I'm an extreme ANTI-nazi and very liberal... but this stuff and the typical portrayal of germany in the british rainbow press is so lame... and grown and educated people like prince "what was his name" coming to a party in a nazi outfit tells a lot about the "elite" of a country...

germany has paid dearly for the huge mistakes it made... and to portray the average german as a nazi is just wrong... there's neo-nazis in germany, france, great britain, united states and even russia... that's not something we're or any of the other countries that has that problem is proud of... but we're open about it... but to be portrayed as a hitler country is very sad....

and talking about the posts of Wojciechowski preceding the picture post, hitler was an austrian citizen, born and raised... get your facts straight before trying to be funny....

my 2 cents

Good Job showing how Germans have gotten beyond being bigots like Hitler by going and trashing British people as a whole.

It's been around 2000 years since a guy was hung to a cross and left to die, and people seem to have a hard time letting go of that. So 62 years is not long at all.

From my understanding it's illegal to even have a swastika in Germany still, even though the symbol was represented in many societies and cultures thousands of years before Hitler was even born... So I'd still say that even today Hitler is having an impact on your country.

I am a fat lazy american who eats fast food daily and does nothing but watch TV... not a british wanker with bad teeth. So if you want to make an iPod ad with President Nixon, Ted Kaczynski, David Koresh, or any other psychotic American from our past... go for it.

Also... Hitler might have been born is Austria, but Nazi's referred to Munich as "Hauptstadt der Bewegung"/"Capital of the Movement"...

Isn't that 'bad teeth' comment a little generalized? I've met several Brits with good teeth.
