Existing phone numbers transferable to AT&T through iTunes
A video posted Apple's website Tuesday explains that non-AT&T customers will be able to transfer their existing mobile phone numbers to the carrier as part of iPhone's home activation process through iTunes.
"Usually it can be done in less than 20 minutes, but it can take several hours depending on your carrier," Apple said. To make the switch, customers will need to enter into the latest version of iTunes their existing mobile phone number, their existing mobile account number, billing zip code, and password (if applicable). When iPhone is connected to a computer for the first time, iTunes will launch automatically and begin the step-by-step activation process that can be completed at the customer's own pace from the privacy of their own home or office. During the process, current AT&T customers can choose to replace their existing mobile phone with iPhone or add a new line to their existing account. New AT&T customers can activate their iPhone and get a new phone number, or transfer their previous number from their old phone. Customers new to AT&T can also choose to activate two or more iPhones on an individual or FamilyTalk plan. All iPhone monthly service plans are available for individuals and families and are based on a new two-year service agreement with AT&T. Individual plans will be priced at $59.99 for 450 minutes, $79.99 for 900 minutes and $99.99 for 1,350 minutes. All plans include unlimited data (email and web), Visual Voicemail, 200 SMS text messages, roll over minutes and unlimited mobile-to-mobile and a one-time activation fee of $36. Customers can also upgrade to $1500 SMS Text Messages per month for $10 extra, or unlimited SMS messages for $20. Existing AT&T customers can keep their existing service plan and simply add an iPhone data plan for $20 extra per month. Readers are encouraged to check out the step-by-step iPhone activation video tutorial posted on Apple's website. Screenshots from the iPhone activation process through iTunes follow (in order): |

In this video seems that the iPhone is 80 Gb and not only 8...

Actually, if you look at the all inclusive shot of iTunes at the top next to the iPhone graphic it says 7GB+, while at the bottom it displays 70GB+. Mere bug in iTunes is my guess as it didn't update from the previous time an iPod was connected.

Yes, it's only in this frame because also in the previous frames the "down bar" is correct with 7+ Gb...

To me, this alone, is revolutionizing the mobile phone business. I now have an excellent (yes I know all the criticism about the actor but who really cares) video showing how the phone works. I have a video showing how to activate the phone and I can activate myself, without the snotty (yes they are usually snotty) underpaid cell salesperson.

...so let me get this right.
MUST you buy the data + telephone plan?!?!! What if you don't care for the data plan, and just want the telephone plan (for 39.99) - can you get just that?

It's my understanding that you can use your existing AT&T plan.

Yes... you can use your existing plan and simply ADD the iPhone Data feature to it the cost would be $20 per month.

I doubt Apple would let that slip. My theory? Apple will issue a press release on Friday, before the launch, saying that they "screwed up" and that the real iPhone capacity is 40GB and 80GB, not 4GB and 8GB. If that doesn't set the world on fire... |

Also, it would bring those hesitant people to pony up and get a phone, after the initial rush. Or Jobs gave him and his people GodPhones. But yeah, it's a pretty big goof considering they zoomed up on it. |

Yes. Apple will overtake MSFT's market cap (BUY! BUY! BUY! @ $120), and Steve Jobs will be the next president of the US (Al Gore will be his campaign manager). And, he'll win the Nobel prize.

But shouldn't you people be concerned if it were true. If it is 80GB (and there's no way Apple just slips in another 72GB for free, ain't going to happen), then you're talking a hard disk, which is going to kill your responsiveness and battery life. |

This is getting as crazy as Temporary Insanity. I hate to tell all of you but what is documented about the iPhone is what you will get. Nothing more and nothing less. This is what sets up disappoint, people start making their own speculation based on flubs or whatever and then the device comes out and it is just as Apple documented and then people go crying "Apple is teh DOOMED!"

What if you have a Verizon phone and want to keep the phone working. However, you want to move the existing phone number from Verizon to the new iPhone?
How does that stuff work? Move the number then go to Verizon and tell them to give me a new one? That way I don't loose my original number doing the switch?
Hardcore.

what about ringtones...how can you have an ipod phone and not be able to download any ringtones? doesnt make sense and seems like a huge oversight. anyone agree?
it doesnt even have to be via itunes, but what about direct to phone downloads like you can do with any other cingular/att device? just seems odd to me...unless they just arent telling us yet... |

CDs + Quicktime Player Pro = Free Ringtones. I'm sure AT&T will have a way to download ringtones to the phone for a charge soon enough though, if they don't already. |

Thanks but that wasnt what i was asking... just because i can create them doesnt mean they can just magically get them onto your phone... Cingular has a bunch of upload facilites (ringers, wallpaper, etc) for their other phones...i am just wondering if people think those will work with iphone |

Hence why I make my own. The iPhone screen is also bigger, so the backgrounds you bought on other phones would be stretched and look like shyte. Making your own ringtones and pictures and transferring them to the phones on Cingular/AT&T is very easy with bluetooth. Apple & AT&T would be crazy if they make it difficult to customize your phone with your own audio, pictures, and video. Especially since that is one of the main complaints about verizon. |

iPhone Corporate Discounts carried over?
I have been doing lots of research on this, and have gotten many different answers. I have an existing phone and want to switch it to an iPhone. I have been told that I will not be able to keep my corporate discount by a retail store manager that had a conference call this evening.
I also called up corporate sales line, and have been told by several people that I will be able to keep the service discount. The store manager was very confident in his answer, being that he just got off the phone with from the conference call. The AT&T employees have no idea what to expect, they are going to get completely blown away when they realize how big of a deal the iPhone coming to their service is. Does anybody know how the corporate discounts are going to work or if they are going to work? Thanks. |
