Apple Store San Fran iPhone line already a three-ring circus

"I'm in front of the Apple Store in San Francisco," an AppleInsider contributor submits. "There is a comedy circus group that's set up a mini golf course, a musician playing a keyboard, a business man in a suit with a MacBook Pro, and various others queueing down the street."

It's barely 6:00 p.m. on Stockton Street -- more than 24 hours before iPhone will hit the Apple flagship shop on the corner -- and things have already grown quite nutty.

Earlier on, a clown troupe moved onto the block, bearing all sorts of iPhone-related propaganda --*including "a mini cardboard iPhone shuffle," which the clowns say will call your friends randomly. They're touting an even smaller version too; it's called the "iPhone nano."

"Get it now, it's your last chance!" shouts a clown. You can catch the photos, below.

Thumbs up to the line organizers, however, who are handing out bottles of water and allowing people to jump out of line temporarily to take showers and buy food. On the other hand, they claim those online can't hold places for other people.

With all the food, water, and showering going on in San Fran, it kinda makes you wonder what's up with our friend Greg Packer, who has been baking in the New York heat since Monday morning....

Professional line waiter Greg Packer awaits iPhone outside Apple's flagship shop in Midtown Manhattan.

The circus arrives Thursday outside Apple's flagship shop in downtown San Francisco.

These are crowds? (I thought 'clowns' was, indeed, more appropriate).

As expected, NYC 5th Ave. is loaded. Saw them on TV tonight. Other than that, It's hard to say... I'm curious about our "out in the boonies" AT&T store and if there's even anybody camping out.

There are at least five AT$T stores near my job and I haven't seen one person waiting on line to get an iPhone. I wonder why.

So then how is it similar to Woodstock? Because you came up with a "funny" name for it?

Geekstock

I can think of a few reasons it is like Woodstock:

1. people are all hyped up for the show
2. other people are saying the show is not worth going to
3. There really only seems to be one place you can have Geekstock (5th Ave)
4. Apple keeps on having one of these things each year.
5. People don't seem to mind how bad people smell.
6. The world is talking about it
7. its about the music man... and the video, internet and of course staying connected man. Can't you feel the vib.
8. Everything at Geekstock is over priced. like the drugs at Woodstock
9. After the event you either feel like you wasted your time and forget you went so that your kids don't find out or you plan to come back for the next event.

I don't like top tens so 9 is all you get.

But ust remember, the reason they're selling this at 6pm is so people don't have to take off from work. So does that mean all these people don't have jobs?

And I must say, I've never understood the mentality of "I've got to be one of the first to get my hands on that thing!" when it comes to products like this, video game consoles, etc. Its like the stupidity of standing in line for days (weeks, months, etc) to be first in to see some movie.

BUt wouldn't it be hillarious if it turns out they were all standing at the wrong door? Or, even funnier, 6pm rolls around, and someone comes out and says "Um, sorry all, but the FedEx truck our iPhones caught fire on the highway and everything was lost. But, you'll be glad to hear we've got rainchecks!"

You know, just somehow, I doubt that.

The look on Eran's face sums up the whole 1st day waiting line experience if you ask me.

nvidia is correct! It's just like Woodstock, just without the music, the crowd, the drugs, the social significance, the rural setting, zzzzzzzz.

Well if that's a 3-ring circus, here in Pittsburgh we had a half ring-circus starting this morning.

WTAE's traffic copter is providing live coverage...
