Scratches

Were they scratches next to the single button or just residue and dust from the shipping cover? If they were scratches I think I would want another one.

You guys in Europe are complaining!

I live in Australia. There isn't even word of it coming here. Yeh sure they are saying 2008 for ASIA but our main carriers Tesltra and Optus have said that they are not interested in the iPhone. That leave Vodafone and Hutchison 3G Australia. Neither of which have great coverage. Also in Australia to get just 1gb of data a month you pay $50 Aus. I can not even imagine what a unlimited data charge would look like. Th reality is that if Australia gets it it is going to be so not the experience of Europe and the US.

hehe I think it is kind of funny that Apple has not done a little add on to include the iPhone in its dictionary. iPod works find but iPhone comes up with wrong spelling. Small things amuse small minds you know.

RDF just kicked into overdrive, I now want one so bad.

One thing that's funny is that the Canadian Store pretends like the iPhone doesn't exist, it has the old layout and no iPhone information page just because there's no deal reached yet. They should put one up to streamline all the sites and it's not like we don't know it's coming.

Can't be appreciated in pics

Went to local ATT store to check the iPhone out. Surprisingly even in my rural area the local ATT store got iPhones and had a line to get in the store.

I got the impression many buyers ran home and posted their phone on Ebay for sale. Many bought wihout even trying the thing out. Anyway I played around with one for 10-15 minutes. Despite it's shortcomings which have been discussed ad naseum, I was very impressed. It really is as intuitive to use as the videos portray it. Browsing is nice and the integration of all features is impressive. It's obvious that this has been under development for many years. It is very well thought out. For example the notes application has a little envelope icon at the bottom. Hit it and the email app is brought up and the note that was typed is the body of the message. Nice. BTW Iiked the keyboard. It worked fine for me.

Didn't get one but am now leaning towards buying.

I knew it, that part never really worried me too much. If the keyboard wasn't good enough, because it's software, Apple would have never announced it. Did you try out the magnifying glass 'backto'?

my iPhone

picked one up in connecticut. walked into the mall at 5:00, saw over 400 people in line at the apple store, said now way. went to the att store... about 30 people in line. i had my phone at around 6:30 - would have had it earlier, but the att sales system kept crashing. while waiting for the system to come online so i could pay, the apple store SOLD OUT. in LESS than 30 minutes. soooooo glad i hopped into the smaller line.

one MAJOR PROBLEM: when att says you can add a $20 data plan to any existing plan, that is TOTAL BS. i HAD a plan i've been grandfathered into since 1999. they claim that now it is a "corporate plan" [yeah, 250 anytime, 5k night/weekends w/ one user is corporate. TOTAL BS. so now they're gouging me for $20 more per month for more minutes that i will never use... but hey, the minutes rollover, right?

Didn't have a chance. Everyone in the store was buying an iPhone but me and I was the one playing with the demo model the longest. Most were buying without even looking at or trying the demo model. The ATT people were beginning to give me the look and kept asking me if I 'had any questions'.

well it looks like att has no idea what's going on with my account now and they will "call me back" once they get things resolved. so for now i can stare at a pretty picture of a globe on my iPhone, along with "activate iphone, connect to itunes", and "slide for emergency".

at least the sox have the bases loaded right now.

I love that there is a Verizon add stuck smack dab in the middle of the iPhone pictures.

Off topic, but watch http://www.iphonelaunch.tv/ - they're interviewing an Apple R&D guy...

The guy says they've got a system internally that can triangulate from cell towers as a replacement for GPS, which he seems to think they'll be able to release. Not as accurate as GPS, but for automatically advancing the Google Maps directions... Perhaps as a OS update...

That is a sad tale from Australia. I came back from a semester Down Under on a Fulbright and I did suffer from Mac deprivation then, though the store took care of me by delivering. No iPhone ever would be a sad way to treat a loyal market. I have seen but not bought at the NYC 5th Avenue Store. Cooolll

I live in Sydney and i use vodafone, in my experience it has great coverage. It doesn't bother that telstra or optus don't want it as long as vodafone or 3 take to it. Though I am worried about the data plans like you mentioned, hope it is like in America but doubt it. On the bright side of it not coming out here for another year well least they will have got rid of any teething problems by then, also might have improvements by then:3g and more memory.

Why do people get excited over the *box* the product comes in??

I mean, I can understand people being excited about the iPhone getting released, and if you're in the US, actually being able to get your hands on one, but The Box? The Cables? The Warranty Card?
- It's a bit like a toddler getting excited by the wrapping paper at Christmas!

Yea, I stopped at the Apple store Westfarms around 8PM and they still had phones for sale. Played around with one for a bit. Definitely a cool device.

20" iMac G5 now with 2GB RAM. :-)

Check out my OS X music program!

Other members have speculated about that, that functionality is actually part of the E911 regulations, all phones sold have to have that. Phone makers do not have to expose the functionality to the user. It's not GPS but it is probably "good enough". The standard is supposed to be accurate within 100 yards. It would be nice to be 10 yards, but I think 100 is accurate enough for me.

I'm not sure but I think at a certain point Cingular can 'deactivate' your phone for 'excessive data usage.' At another service provider it was like 175 mbs a month (I think, I read it about a week ago and really wasn't looking for that). So technically, that 1 gig is pretty damn good.

You realize there's no way for iPhone to reach Finland by October, right?

What Apple is selling to the US now is a very expensive non-3G phone that does not accept 3rd party apps, doesn't work with anyone's existing chargers or other accessories, has no changeable battery, has a ho-hum camera with no flash, doesn't record video or voice, doesn't handle video calls, doesn't record calls, and doesn't send MMS.

Apple hasn't even bothered to advertise Macs or iPods - not once - on TV or magazines. They don't have real brand recognition outside computer pros and artists.
Meanwhile, Nokia has total market domination (in a study done in 2006 where the the amounts of mobile devices were polled right off the network, Nokia phones measured 89%). They sell phones that have none of the deficiencies I listed, still have a pretty respectable ability to serve as a music player, and are cheap enough that you can get one of them plus a large iPod for the price of an iPhone. Now, a 2nd gen iPhone that cuts the above complaint list at least in half by including 3G and some other stuff.. that's what we'll get, it's just not feasible as early as October.

A former Nokia analyst, can't remember his name now, had a pretty nice analysis of this up on the web.
